xmlsimple not found
I''ve been working through the Flickr tutorial, and it looks like I installed the Flickr gem with the require xml-simple gem without problems. But when I got to the point in the demo when it was time to submit the form, I got an error with the message "uninitialized constant Flickr". I did some poking around at the gem repository, and ran ''ruby

routes question [Catching URL in a variable]
Hello Rails Gurus, I have spent the entire night trying to figure this out with no luck. I will really appreciate if someone can come to my rescue. I have a URL like the following: http://domain.com/resource/http://www.rubyonrails.org and would like to capture the rubyonrails URL after the http://domain.com/resource/ part in a variable. I tried something like

spec template for CRUD?
Hello, Has anyone already come up with a set of shared behaviours that someone could leverage when adhering to a CRUD concept, with respect to controllers? Relatedly, it would be nice if there were a way to share generalized behaviour specs. -Chris

ferret success stories?
Hi all, there was a recent thread[1] on rails-deploy about Ferret in which a lot of people complained of problems using it in production. I''ve been using Ferret (with DRb) for many months now with no serious issues. I''m assuming the posters know what they''re doing so I''m guessing they''re just using Ferret in higher-scale environments than me. I

[AAF] remote indexing via DRb with acts_as_ferret
Hi! Aaf trunk has undergone several major refactorings the last days, with the result that you can now transparently switch your app from local to remote indexing and back :-) If you plan to scale your app to more than one physical machine, or if you have problems with corrupted indexes and the like under high load, you really should give this a try. I wrote some documentation to get you

Scaling Ferret Beyond One Server
Hi Everyone, I was wondering if folks here have had experience scaling Ferret beyond a single server? Currently, we are running Ferret in the same physical server as its Rails front end (via acts_as_ferret), but it is evident that we need a more scalable solution already. How would you split up the tasks (via dRB perhaps?) between two or three servers? Shared disk, replicated Ferret index (?),

[ActsAsFerret] OpenSolaris (TextDrive) indexing issues
Gents, I successfully installed AAF on my TextDrive OpenSolaris Container, but I''m having some issues with indexing. I have a model called Blogs which has AAF enabled. The first time I tried to find_by_contents for a ''word'' I know was on the Database I got now results. Apparently the index was not ready yet. Then I waited a few hours and checked that the /index

Your app release and marketing strategy..
Hey, Rapid web development is all when and good but when it takes 4 months to rise anywhere in google it certainly takes off the shine. You hear of zero to hero.. crashed the server.. minted before toilet break.. I was wondering if any heros would share their marketing strategies.. or prehaps an amazon link to "Post-Agile Web development". Does anyone plug an app purely based on its

In Search of Search!
I am implementing a search on my site and was wondering which will be the best way to go about it. We want a full text search and an advance search. We will have huge amounts of data that we would want to search. - on multiple tables. I went through the plugins acts_as_ferret and acts_as_solr. but ferret seems to have a locking problem at high load and solr needs a java server. So what do you

Stability of Rails
I''ve seen a lot of issue regarding the stability of Rails apps. I''m charged with investigation of Rails for my company and I''ve looked at numerous fourms, groups, etc. (Textdrive, here, etc.) and it *seems* like there is a stability problem with Rails (ie: crashes, etc.) Is this as common as it looks, or is this tied to things like Lighttpd (web server) or Typo

Introduce yourself and your project -- Round 2
On December 14th, 2004 David Heinemeier Hansson sent this to the mailing list: I''m seeing a lot of new names on the list. Could we perhaps do a round of introductions? That would also be a great first post, if you haven''t had a chance to contribute yet. The basics should include your name, your organization, your country and city, and the project you''re
