Hello. When I attempt to run ssh with the -f (fork in background) flag or from

Access Based Enumeration
...add on for Windows 2003 SP1 that will do access based
enumeration.
This is great because of "out of sight, out of mind". If the user
doesn't have privilege to access the directory or file it doesn't show
up in the directory listing.

Any idea when samba will be able to do the same (if it can already do
it, just point me in the right direction).
Thanks,

A (maybe)_ easy solution to global login script for group checking
...embership
I saw lots of complicated solutions (on-the-fly scripts, group directories)
etc. but the following works very well for me:
I downloade dthe ifmember.exe from the microsoft website, and stuck it in
the netlogon directory (not the scripts directory)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/new/ifmember-o.asp
Then the script is:
@echo off
ifmember "DOMAIN\group1"
if not errorlevel 1 goto group2
net use r: \\SERVER\group1files
:group2
ifmember "DOMAIN\group2"
if not errorlevel 1 goto group3
net use s: \\SERVER\group2files
:group3
....

samba 3, ADS, kerberos, keytab problem - Additional pre-authentication required
...o get a ticket wih a cronjob and a keytab file:
- On the ADS-KDC I created a user, to whose account the new kerberos
principal is to be mapped,
- which I did by typing "ktpass -princ host/hostname@REALM -mapuser
username -pass password -out keyfile", like microsoft explains on their
techinfo sites.
- Then I transferred the keyfile to the linux box and tried to use it
for kinit with the -k and -t switches.
BUT: All I got is: Additional pre-authentication required.
(which seems to be the least explanatory of all samba errors...)
Here follow my tries:

Bizarre bug
...os config is
broken in some way (I'm assuming that connecting under an alternate name
means that the kerberos credentials don't get sent). I've therefore
focused my efforts on fixing my kerberos configuration.
I have tried following the procedure at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/planning/security/kerbsteps.aspto manually create a keytab file, and installed that under /etc/krb5.keytab. I've tried all possible variations on the hostname I can think of, including "host/anna@REALM", "host/anna$@REALM", "host/anna.DOMAIN.NAME@REALM", "anna...

Samba File Server - AD-MIT KDC Trust
Hi,
I have a large client who has an MIT Kerberos realm set up. According
to MS guidelines, they have also set up a one way trust between their
AD domain and their MIT realm so that their users could continue using
their MIT kerberos login and password to access kerberized services on
their network. Essentially, users log into their PCs using their MIT
names/passwords but can access

Serial PnP for NUT?
Are there any plans for using serial PnP in NUT?
I tried to implement this on the 'safenet' driver, but the support for
this doesn't seem to be widespread among the UPSes compatible with this
driver. So far, I have only managed to get one (a Sweex 1000) to output
it, but unfortunately, it is probably too generic to be really useful
for autodetection:

Active Directory - Samba 3.0.4
Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.4 under Solaris 8 to join a Windows AD domain.
I've compiled and configured all the required code.. and all works so far. I
can do a kinit username@domain.name and get a ticket from the AD server...
Samba's smbd and nmbd run, winbind complains about credentials.....
Here's my issue. I don't have any control over the AD server. We

Standardized Benchmarking?
Hello all,
I'm creating a site where people can share their benchmarks. If you are
interested, the site is at (I just started on it so it has the stock
graphics and color scheme still):
www.dcsnow.com/mambo
I would like some thoughts on what would be a good way to standardize the
testing so the results are more comparable. Is Bonnie+ a good program for
hard drive speed testing? Is there

We use local (!) GPOs on our Win2k clients with great success:
- log on to "master" workstation as administrator
- create a link to the "C:\WINNT\system32\GroupPolicy" folder on your

Unable to join ADS domain
I've installed Samba 3.0.2 (from the source) on a SuSE
8.2 system with MIT Kerberos 1.3.1 (I uninstalled the
Heimdal code) and the OpenLDAP 2.1.27 development
libraries installed on it. I want to make this system
a domain member of a Win2K native-mode ADS domain but
can't get "net ads join" to work. I've run "kinit
myid@MYDOMAIN.COM" and I get at ticket, but when
