dell says bye bye to Linux
Well. A priori. I'm a dedicated legacy OS person. I cut my teeth on
command line DOS and then WIN 3.xx (these days that means WFWG 3.11). I drew
the line at WIN9x. Hate that beast with a true passion, but because it is
the 800 pound gorilla, I have to find some way to accomodate it in the
future.
So, here is the rub. Linux is a real PITA. Capital PITA. Unbelievably techie
and that is bad.

Does Digium work on Mondays?
I've been trying all day to reach their techie folks to ask a couple
questions about something I worked all weekend on. Keeps rolling to VM
and the receptionist does the same thing.
Just was wondering if anyone else was able to reach them today.

So, does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?
Thank you,

an OS X installer
Now that I've got the recent build of Icecast running (thanks
everyone), I'm wondering about an OS X installer. Icecast would be even
more palatable to the less-techy OSX users if there were an installer
for the binary. As long as the installer checked for the dependent
libs, everything would be straight forward.
Has this been discussed before?

What would you tell the CIO in an "ABCs of Email" overview?
One of the key points that came up when I researched and wrote the
"Five Things CIOs Should Know about Fighting Spam" article (http://
www.cio.com/article/28830) was that they should know the basics of
how email works. Otherwise, said plenty of techies, the CIO won't
have the first idea of what the email admin is complaining about.
So I'm going to do my part. I'm going to write an "ABCs of Email"
article (to accompany the many other ABCs articles we have on
CIO.com, at http://www.cio.com/article/40242 ). I'd like...

I saw this asked once before but there was no reply :-/

Dovecot Oy merger with Open-Xchange AG
...here were some not-so-promising "take overs" but there were also
others.
IMHO the larger the corporation is, the less are the chances for
*long-term* benefits of the OSS/free software (mainly because: usually
commercial success is driven and defined from marketing to sales[1] sown
to the techies which are forced into "features" and "delivery dates" to
achieve some "company defined goal" - and that is usually not "bug
free", "safe", or the like. Free software/OSS just happens that *at
least* half of it should come from the "working leve...

PHP Manager examples
Anyone have any example scripts in PHP that connect to the manager? I'm not really a much of a programmer so I could use boost. Once I can figure out how to get it to login properly, I'll be ok from there.
Thanks,
Kevin

Another Newbie Question
Hey all,
My apologies if this sounds blindingly obvious, but am I correct in saying
that I can use Asterisk to connect two extensions and make calls between
them without needing an actual telephone line at all ?
As I said, probably blindingly obvious. but my techies have gone home for
the evening and I was looking for an answer before I left.
Thanks,
Callum

bluetooth nap and internet access problem
Hello,
I''m trying to configure my desktop as a bluetooth network access point for my
ipaq (as explained in http://www.stolk.org/debian/bluetooth.html).
I''m running shorewall version 2.2.1 on debian testing with a local network via

app_queue bug with call transfer

We've got the app_queue configured to supposedly allow for a call to be

X-Lite Pro) and then decides to transfer the call (using the SIP phone
interface) they get disconnected from their call and after left logged

Why using hypercall_page ?
Hello,
I am studing Xen hypercall now. I found that hypercall is invoked via
hypercall_page, which is only filled with (in
no-hypervisor-kernel-mode ):
mov $i, %eax
int $0x82
ret
Why not invoked the hypercall directly by "int $0x82" ? What''s the
advantage of using hypercall_page?
Thanks,
Wu

FWD codecs?
Hi. There is not much info on the FWD site about this. What codecs do they use? When I try to connect with X-Lite, it works with GSM. When I try to call out with *, it wants G729. I have disallow=all and allow=gsm in the sip.conf. I end up getting errors:
Unable to find a path from G729A to GSM

AsteriskNOW and IE
...iskNOW, using IE7, it displays
a message at the top "Your browser is not supported by this version of GUI!",
and "We recommend using Firefox".
Does this mean that it is known NOT to work under IE7, or just that it is
insufficiently tested to be guaranteed?
It's easy to ask techies to use Firefox, but if we are trying to sell a
system to a customer who always uses IE, it is a bit of a negative point
to tell him, "oh, by the way, you have to download Firefox onto your PC,
because this doesn't work with IE."
OK, while typing this, I tried logging in via IE, which...

Two Interface Setup + router problems II
Hey all, A while ago today I posted about not being able to get my two
interface setup working with a router (di 652 wireless/wired). I
recieved help from Tom and got everything in the router turned off and
set it up as a switch rather then a rouiter, this still never
corrected my problems. Use tcpdump I see there is alot of traffic, but
as soon as I dhcpcd eth1 (local) I loose all outside access
