Samba3-beta1 as a PDC and using tdbsam as passdb backend it takes the home-directory info from /etc/passwd
I didn't get any answers so I try again: I am using tdbsam as passdb backand. I have added root user with pdbedit. The machine trust account was added on the fly. I have added the user with pdbedit. I have created the user in /etc/passwd. When the user logs in from a W2k and mounts the home-directory I noticed that Samba didn't take the home-direc...

tdbsam.
The documentation says "As a general guide, the Samba Team does not recommend using the tdbsam backend for sites that have 250 or more users". Since we moved default passbd backend to tdbsam, does that statements still holds true. As an FYI, I am using Samba-3.2.4, idmap_rid with tdbsam as backend for about 3 years with 2000 users on member server configuration authenticating AD 2003....

Migration from LDAP to tdbsam
I need to migrate from samba w/LDAP 2.2.8a to 3.0.1pre3 with tdbsam. Any suggestions how to keep from having to change all the profiles? I have read through chapter 30 of the HOWTO but it assumes keeping the same backend. I need support to munge_dial and that is not available without mysql or tdbsam.... Thanks in advance for your help. Sean

pam_smbpass.so passdb.tdb support
...iled log I have noticed it is looking for the passwords in smbpasswd (/etc/samba/private) which is of zero size . I think all users passwd are located in passwd.tdb.I could fix this by giving "passdb backend=smbpasswd" . somewhere I read smbpasswd is obsolete , and recommended to use tdbsam .. and /etc/pam.d/ftp file is --------------------- root at storage:/# cat /etc/pam.d/ftp auth required /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so account required /lib/security/pam_nologin.so account required /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so password required /lib/security/pam_smb...

login script - runs just the first time a user logons
Hello I have a really strange problem with logon scripts. I'm using a version 3.0.20b .deb found on samba.org on a Debian Sarge, and a tdbsam backend. 1) I had no "logon script" in the smb.conf file just the per user setting in the tdbsam. Full path to logon script given in tdbsam (e.g. \\server\netlogon\logon.bat). I can mount the netlogon share, access rigths are good, and I can check the file has DOS style CR/LF. What I tes...

Re-doing tdbsam
Running Samba 3.x with tdbsam. Its a small nework of 4 Windwos XP machines. Having a little trouble adding the machines to the domain. pdbedit shows duplication machines names and such. Since its such a small number of machines, want to just start over with a fresh tdbsam as it seems faster then trying to clean it up....

samba migration from PDC tdbsam to BDC tdbsam
Hello According to my post "samba migration to another distro llinux" on samba lists I would like to make migration of samba from one machine to another. I can't find information how to transfer accounts, policies, users, domain SID and other options from PDC (tdbsam backend)(current server) to BDC (tdbsam backend)future server. I found some info but its about migration from tdbsam to LDAP. I don't use LDAP. Could you explain me how to do it step by step ?

pdbedit and tdbsam
I'm having trouble using pdbedit to add user to a tdbsam database. I'm running Redhat Enterprise Linux ES 3.0, with the stock version of samba. I'm not sure why it won't let me add users. I tried it with smbpasswd and that didn't work either. Anyway here's a plethora of information: [root@samba root]# pdbedit -a -u root -d 10 INF...

tdbsam and variables
Dear List Members We are trying to setup samba PDC with tdbsam backend. First question: When "Home Directory" is not set in tdbsam does samba just use the setting of "logon home" in smb.conf? And when it's set does it ignore the smb.conf setting? Second question: Does tdbsam allow the inclusion of variables such as %a, %u, %H, etc....

How to regenerate passdb.tdb
Hi, I was having problem with the tdbsam backend in which a particular user got listed twice with pdbedit. (http://www.mail-archive.com/samba at lists.samba.org/msg109110.html) Without much hope in fixing it, I am planning to re-generating passdb.tdb on my PDC by: (1)exporting tdbsam to smbpasswd backend (2)delete passdb.tdb (3)re-...

Are tdbsam and smbpasswd linked?
Hi All, I just added three users to my tdbsam with "pdbedit -a -u username" (had to do "useradd" first). All three appeared in tdbsam as they should, as verified with "pdbedit -L". But, all three also appeared in /etc/samba/smbpasswd. This is not a mistake, they were not there before. Are "tdbsam" and...

Migration from samba_dsdb to tdbsam.
...environment, standalone server running on i386 built from source. After performing the build and installation, I was informed that passdb backend = samba_dsdb was no longer supported, so I commented out the line, to find which default I should use. testparm advises it should be: passdb backend = tdbsam Is there a mechanism/tool to convert the backend samba_dsdb to tdbsam? create smbpasswd/tdbsam from ldapsam/LDAP query?
...to have anything like Name Service Switch (NSS), and relies solely on /etc/passwd and /etc/group. In other words, Samba will be unable to get users from LDAP. I thought that perhaps a workaround would be to fetch all needed info from the LDAP, and create proper /etc/passwd and smbpasswd files (or tdbsam perhaps). Is it possible to do so? Or perhaps there are some tools for converting ldapsam to tdbsam? -- Tomasz Chmielewski htp://wpkg.org

tdbsam Question
Dumb question time; I can't find the answer in the Samba-3 or HOWTO docs: how do you add users to the passdb.tdb (tdbsam's db)? Is pdbedit the only way? I ask because the Chapt 3 Samba-3 example has passdb = tdbsam in the samba config file, but the instructions for adding users are to use useradd and smbpasswd, which leave passdb.tdb empty (except for root--I have no idea how that got in there). Thanks Er...

Simple Samba PDC - tdbsam limitations?
Hi, I'm setting up a new Samba server, and am debating between LDAP (complex, and I'm not that familiar with it) and tdbsam for the password backend... I understand the physical limitations (single PDC, no replication, etc), which is fine, since this is a small office - about 50 workstations, possibly growing to as many as 75, but no more than that. What are the limitations of the tdbsam backend, with respect to p...
