TDB functionality document
Hi, Does someone know a document which explains the TDB structure. functionalites, and format of the TDB files etc. I need to understand why some of the TDBs like messages.tdb, unexpected.tdb, brlock if not read_only, locking.tdb, session.tdb, wins.tdb are called with TDB_CLEAR_IF_FIRST tdb flags. Why some TDBs are opend with O_RDWR|O_CREAT flags viz. gencache.tdb, group_mapping.tdb, account_policy.tdb, share_info.tdb, secrets.tdb. schannel_store.tdb e...

How would you implement cross-process locking without any syscalls? Maybe Linux has some fancy stuff here, but for most unixes we need to coordinate the mmap'ed area for the tdbs fcntl locks. tdbbackup with bouncing/shutting down samba possible?
Hi, We are a small company, which has just started using samba. Recently we have faced a few issues regarding the TDBs getting corrupted. I have read that the only way of getting around this issue, is to regularly take tdbbackups. But, this process needs a downtime of my samba server, which we would not want. Instead, is there a way where I can take the tdbbackup with out shutting down samba server. That is, perha...

Problems with TDBs on CTDB-managed Samba instance
Hi All, My site has two separate clustered Samba instances (managed by two independent CTDB instances) running over GPFS. In the last couple of weeks, we have seen a recurring issue that causes the `smbd` process in *one* of these instances to become unresponsive (as seen by CTDB), which results in flapping of CTDB and multiple IP takeover runs. The symptoms that we observe are: 1) Samba

How to "recover" the printer drivers?
Samba 2.2.8a-1, RH8. ... So, I had to reinstall. Fortunately I had a back-up copy. I've installed everything and then went to back-up and brought back all the stuff from /etc/samba and /var/cache/samba and all /etc/cups and /etc/printcap*. Aparently samba is working corectly: All user/machine accounts are in place winbind OK... It's just that although I've restored the /home/printers

Winbind process stuck at 100% after changing use_mmap to no
Hi, We've had a strange issue after following the recommendations at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ping_pong, particularly the part about mmap coherence. We are running CTDB/Samba over a MooseFS clustered FS, and we'd not done the ping-pong before. After finding that the mmap coherence test did not pass, we changed "use mmap" to "no" in smb.conf. This morning

I had added the problematic group to /etc/group and re-ran samba-tool (after deleting the generated files/tdbs), same error again. I will retry that later in my test setup ... copying over the lines from the old samba-server might help, maybe with a little editing? >> b) I want to change the stupid workgroup-name from OFFICE to >> something >> useful ... After finding > that the mmap coherence test did not pass, we changed "use mmap" to > "no" in smb.conf. "use mmap" only affects tdbs, which should not sit on the clustered fs, they should *always* be on a local file system like ext4, assuming you're using Linux. The wiki page above states that it's not absolutely essential to provide mmap coherence, so you should not bother too much. Or are you putting tdb files on moos...

issue with running samba on two separate systems under 1 hostname
...ave a created a hostname that refers to two ip addresses, each being a separate machine. I have configured samba identically on each system and everything appears to work ok for a little while until our printing tdb becomes corrupted and everything hangs up.. (at least the printing).. deleting the tdbs and restarting samba appears to correct the issue until the next hang.. this is samba-3.0.4-6.3E (yep on RHEL 3). is there anything else I should be doing or am I at this point, "stuck".. Tom p.s. for what its worth, I can't get both machines to register (of course) under the same...

Print queue show jobs when queried from windows, nothing in cups
...the "remains" of 264 print jobs - some dating back to April, but I can't find where the information is coming from. Apparently the jobs print fine, but then the information sticks in the queue information. Running lpq on the Samba system shows: # lpq -a no entries I dumped a few tdbs and upped my log level to 10, but I didn't see any logging from cups_queue_get. I thought Samba would go into that code to reload the queue information. Any hints on what to try next to clean up my queue? Thanks, - Bill

Moving fileserver
I'm having a problem here I'm not sure how to solve, so I hope someone else have done the same (and succeeded :) I have an old smb server ('tux') which is ancient (both in software and hardware) and can't handle the load. This machine is running version 2.2.3a-14.1 (Debian GNU/Linux woody) with 'character set = ISO8859-1'. The new smb server ('bella') runs

Problem with 3.0.10 and 3.0.11 with 1 smbd process using99% cpu
I have this same problem on 3.0.10, and I also "fixed" it by deleting the tdbs. My problem, had nothing to do with printing, it was happening once I started winbindd with security = ADS. Jerry, what would we need to do to track this bug down in the tdb code? I have logs at level 10, ltrace output, and a backtrace. Do you think that there were changes made to the tdb code i...
