tdbbackup with bouncing/shutting down samba possible?
Hi,
We are a small company, which has just started using samba.
Recently we have faced a few issues regarding the TDBs getting corrupted.
I have read that the only way of getting around this issue, is to regularly
take tdbbackups.
But, this process needs a downtime of my samba server, which we would not
want.
Instead, is there a way where I can take the tdbbackup with out shutting
down samba server.
That is, perhaps a way by which we just effectively shutdown TDBs one by
one, taking there backups.
If that is possible, the...

[patch] Samba 3.0.1pre1 : unable to link tdbbackup on Solaris 9
Hi to all,
On Solaris 9 (and below I think), Samba 3.0.1pre1's tdbbackup now needs snprintf which is not included in Solaris.
The following patch on master Makefile.in (~samba/source) should ease the compilation of tdbbackup :
diff -u Makefile.in.orig Makefile.in

Proper use of tdbbackup
I have googled a lot, but I have found no examples of the correct use of
the tdbbackup program.
I am looking for some advice on how to use tdbbackup. I mean, I know I
can simply run "tdbbackup *.tdb", but I was looking for in-depth
information on when and how to use it, about best practices on using it,
or what NOT to do.
The Samba documentations says I should run it in...

GID mappings of built-in groups when addin additional dc
Hi,
I have a samba 4.4.5 AD domain and is working perfect, but now I need to
add a second samba 4 AD, I have found that in
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Join_an_additional_Samba_DC_to_an_existing_Active_Directory
is detailed the correct steps, my question is about step related with
winbind (tdbbackup) builtin groups, appears a message "*NOTE: Only do this
if you are running a version of Samba before 4.2.0 or are using the
built-in winbind.*" but I'm not sure if in my environment I have to make
this step.
I have installed and configured samba 4.4.5 from sources and only added

Solaris, Samba-3.0.1pre1 Compile error
Hello all, I currently run Samba 3.0 on a Solaris 9 machine in a production
environment. I'm happy with it.
I tried compiling samba-3.0.1pre1 using ./configure --with-ldap=no.
However when it gets to linking bin/tdbbackup it fails. This is the error it
gives:
Using FLAGS = -O -I./popt -Iinclude

you'd better fix this before releasing 3.0.1
Solaris 2.6 gcc 2.95.3
Compiling tdb/tdbbackup.
Linking bin/tdbbackup
Undefined first referenced
Symbol in file
smb_snprintf tdb/tdbackup.o
I thought we'd fixed this already.

How to repair corrupt ntprinters.tdb?
Hi,
we are using samba 3.0.24 as a printspooler for 80 network printers with
a 500kB ntprinters.tdb for some years now. When we recently restarted
samba we noticed that the ntprinters.tdb automatically shrinked to 24kB
and printing was no longer possible.
tdbdump of the original tdb-file is impossible too:
"Failed to open ntprinters.tdb"
The strange thing about this: we can solve

Yes and no.
Yes: it's the stock FreeBSD's Samba port.
No: the FreeBSD port has itself several patches WRT the original Samba
distribution.

You mean: compile with debug symbols, attach gdb and get stack trace?
If so, I'll do it, but I'll need some time.

I tried to check with
tdbbackup -v /usr/local/samba/var/locks/printing/IEPRINT.tdb
I got returncode 0 , but that ~.tdb was spoilt .
Moving the file IEPRINT.tdb away makes the printer IEPRINT running.
