Max Buffer Size vs Max Raw Buffer question...1GB tuning questions
...and workstations to work efficiently on a 1GB lan. So far I've increased the MTU on both the workstation and linux server to 9000. Then on the windows xp workstation, I've added these registry keys and rebooted: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "TcpWindowSize"=dword:3FFFF700 "Tcp1323Opts"=dword:3 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters] "SizReqBuf"=dword:0000FFFF "TcpWindowSize"=dword:3FFFF700 Now, normal communications with the samba server work great... 8960 tcp/ip frames inste...

Samba performance on Fast Ethernet networks when linked to Win95
...3 minutes for the same file TCP_NODELAY - very important , when off , transfer time was 1 minute max xmit - important , 10-20 sec variations read size - not very important (5-10 sec variations) read ahead - not very important Also, I have modified DefRecWindow in the [MSTCP] section of SYSTEM.INI, TCPWINDOWSIZE : transfer time is bigger, sometimes even double. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ First of all, I was tempted to say that the Microsoft TCP/IP protocol has a bad implementation on Win95, but after trying the ftp transfer , I could not say that any more. At the begining, Linux se...

SMB throughput inquiry, Jeremy, and James' bow tie
...~23MB/s, nearly a 3x improvement, making large file copies such as ISOs much speedier. However ProFTPd and Lighttpd throughput are both a steady ~48MB/s, just over double the SMB throughput. I've tweaked the various Windows TCP stack registry settings, WindowScaling ON, Timestamps OFF, 256KB TcpWindowSize, etc. Between two Windows machines SMB throughput is ~45MB/s. You can see from the remarks below the various smb.conf options I've tried. No tweaking thus far of either Windows or Samba has yielded any improvement, at all. It seems that regardless of tweaking I'm stuck at ~23MB/s. [glo...

Slow file writes to server
...hat I had done the registry "tweak" from speedguide.net. Once I applied this registry edit, it worked on other machines too. Here is the contents of their registry file: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "SackOpts"=dword:00000001 "TcpWindowSize"=dword:0003ebc0 "Tcp1323Opts"=dword:00000001 "DefaultTTL"=dword:00000040 "EnablePMTUBHDetect"=dword:00000000 "EnablePMTUDiscovery"=dword:00000001 "GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize"=dword:0003ebc0 I am not sure which line of this fixed the problem but I...

Extremly slow (3-4k/s) on Win clients while Linux clients work fine
Hi, I've migrated a Win2k fileserver to Samba 3.0.33 on Gentoo (Kernel 2.6.28). While the Linux clients work fine, I get the absolutely worst transferrates on Win (XP Prof + Vista) like 3-4k/s (compared to ~10MB/s on Linux). When copying larger files on Windows, they start this slow, but the transfer becomes faster after some time like 2Mbit/s via WLAN which would be acceptable. I've

Samba Variables and TCP/IP Throughput
Hi, I am trying to optimize my gigabit network. I have two Intel 1000 MT Gigabit Server Adapters, which support Jumbo Frames -- as well as a Switch that supports Jumbo Frames. However, I am observing some strange behavior in my file transfers from Windows XP to Linux and I am wondering if it has anything to do with the way the Samba variables are set on my Linux box? The "strange

Hello Tom, I am not sure if you can help with this but I am at my wits end. If you hit this site and do a force refresh (ctrl + F5) the site will time out and lose connections. Do the same on port 443 and it does not time out??? The web site I am reffering to is www.tituswill.com I think the only problem is port 80. Do you have any idea how to diagnose this I have sent a dump of just
