SCP v. SFTP
I was comparing some traces from SCP and SFTP when transferring the same file 200MB file between the same host pairs. Even when I put SFTP in batch mode I noticed that I saw 403208 bytes from the receiver in comparison to 3368 bytes with SCP. I've attached the relevant output from tcptrace below (the b->a column is the return side of the trace). Mostly I'm just curious as to what is generating so much return traffic for SFTP? Actually, now that I think about it, why almost an additional 9000 packets* for SFTP on the sending side as well? Is it just some artifact of my netw...

Samba -> WinXP: slow transfers, partial solution
...but still not to the normal speed. 5) Playing with "socket options" does not give any results. Specifically, using advices from the article http://www.dd.iij4u.or.jp/~okuyamak/Documents/tuning.english.html about SO_SNDBUF does not improve situation (but read below). 6) tcpdump + tcptrace show that there are a lot of retransmissions, see dumps below. 7) I've tested several WinXP clients with different hardware, all with the same results. 8) Samba logs looks normal to me, nothing special. Points (3) and (5), and also the article about SO_SNDBUF tuning gave me an idea tha...

Before adding the TC rules to the system, I''ve runned my test sys...

Newbie Question: Can I setup mongrel as a proxy between a browser and the web?
I am trying to create a proxy which I can route my browser requests through in order to gather information on the web page loading. At this time I am particularly interested in the many GET requests associated with loading a single web page. Note: This does not have anything to do with rails, my goal is to run a ruby app in the background, set firefox to proxy all requests through it, log those
