recreate/re-provision DNS db from scratch?
Hi, Is there a way to re-initialize/re-provision DNS? I have a working domain with 100+ users and computers etc.. I want to preserve all those users, settings and group policies etc, only start the DNS part from scratch. Why? I've been having some (mysterious) issues with Samba 4 DNS since.. well.. I suppose since I started with 4.0.6 (migrated from Samba 3.x) but from a users' point of

recreate/re-provision DNS db from scratch?
...ntion: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba#Other_changes_you_should_pay_attention_to.2C_when_updating - How many DCs do you have? - What Samba versions do your DCs run? - Does replication works? - Do you use the internal DNS or BIND_DLZ? - Is Samba/BIND listening on port 53 (netstat -taunp|grep :53) - Does DNS entries resolve on the server (try https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO#Testing_DNS) Regards, Marc

Problem with AD users and groups
To all, I have run into a problem. I am running Samba 4.1.0 pre1-git-94f11e9 and I shut down our server to do regular maintenance. Unknown to me at the time, a machine was connected. I know, ugh!! Anyway, when I rebooted and tried to use the AD users and groups tool, I get an error stating that "naming convention cannot be located because the system detected a possible attempt to

DNS replication and BDCs
Hi, For normal readers you kn ow already my setup, but for those new here, I have a Samba4 PDC and two BDCs one a samba4 and the other a W2k8 R2 machine. Yesterday we had problems with our upstream service provider and my PDC (Backend BIND 9 DLZ) went down for some hours, as you might guess my whole AD was down due to the fact that the main DNS was down. I would like youi to point me or tell

to know which dns-backend ?
Hello guys: I need to know a strategy to identify which dns-backend are Samba4 DC using: BIND9 or Internal? Some time ago someone told me I can check this by verifying if exists the user 'dns-hostname'. But, what if this user has been deleted? Or, what's the situation if I need to get the dns-backend on a replication environment? On the other hand, How can I know if my server is

recreate/re-provision DNS db from scratch?
...inux, fully up to date Debian 7.8 (wheezy), 64 bit. Not sure what else to say about it. > - Do you use the internal DNS or BIND_DLZ? Internal. Also, I'm using './configure' without any arguments. I must c...

Samba4 - Win7 RSAT tools - global catalog (GC) cannot be contacted
Fresh install of 4.0.6 from source on CentOS 6 minimal. Provisioning worked fine as did adding a Win7 Pro machine to the domain. Now trying to use the RSAT (Remote System Administration Tools), specifically the Active Directory Users and Computers tool. When looking at the properties for the "Administrator" account, clicking on the "Member Of" tab results in a 30 second

Samba4 and iptables
Hi everyone, I had posted recently about getting Samba4 to work on CentOS 6.4 but having changes only replicating in one direction, from the Win2k3 AD but not back to it. I solved the problem, this time, by disabling iptables. I find it a bit hard to understand. These are the rules I have set up: *filter :INPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [52:5888] -A INPUT -m state
