Creating Custom System Policy Templates
Has anyone looked into creating custom templates for Microsoft's System
Policy editor ? I like the idea of managing workstations through the
NTConfig.POL file, but the included templates are quite a bit outdated.
Does anyone know if it would be worth-while to take the time and create an
updated Template to add policies to manage newer features of Windows
2000/XP through the NTConfig.POL

removing local policies
Hello Everyone
We are upgrading to Samba4 from Samba 3.x, we got a fully functional domain over the last 4 years and we are trying to do our migration as smooth as possible.
I have migrated, users, machines and everything to the new samba4 domain (not in production yet), however when i log and old machine from the samba 3.x domain to the samba 4 domains, the local policy still applies, i suppose

Samba support for ADM files
Hi
What I would like to do is have my custom adm files in a shared folder on my
samba server so that if I make a change, it updates the windows XP clients on
my network in a similar fashion to active directory on a windows server.
However, I cannot seem to find any support for this in samba in the
documentation I have read. Do I have to go to each machine and use group
policy editor to load

policies primer posted
After trying to get all the policy stuff nailed down I figured I'd save
others the trouble, so I wrote up a primer and posted it on my site at

Hoepfully that will save others some trouble

Re: samba Digest, Vol 55, Issue 18

but it worked. I copy-pasted the LOCAL SID to the GLOBAL SID
in "secrets.tdb".
Now in your case, it would probably be even easier to just think up
a new 7-letter word to overwrite the current name in both "smb.conf"
and "secrets.tdb".
Unfortunately WARLOCK is also tatooed in several places in each
client's registry. Hopefully, pasting over the new name with a .reg script
will obviate the need to re-join the domain. Try it out, when there is no
one to disturb. Back up "/etc/samba" and "/var/lock/samba" with smb
and nmb stopped so that you can...

Changing domain name
Hi,
For reasons best known to the IT admin before myself, we currently
have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about
15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux
domain clients.
A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net
getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid.
I started doing this when I noticed something

GlusterFS and Lustre
I came across this www.gluster.org
Has any one tried it .
Is it a true parallel file system allowing concurrent read and write to a
file by many processes.
Will it be suitable for HPC applications.

FXS or VOIP
Hi
I am setting up a phone system for a small office.
The office will have 5-8 phones and a fax line.
There are 4 hunt lines coming into the office.
We have made no hardware purchase yet.
Being an asterisk newbie, before I suscribed to this list I just
assumed that I would buy voip phones and connect
all the phones to a private ethernet network.
However, I see many people inquiring about FXS
