ipfw deny or reject - not just a matter of taste?
Hi, I think this is worth a note. It was generally said the decision between deny and reject (aka unreach) could be taken lightly - and most people seem to prefer "deny", which complicates things for an attacker, because packets just vanish without any report and tasks timeout. But from my viewpoint, this argument falls into the category "security by obscurity", and I found

Hooks for win32-service
Just trying to come up with hooks for win32-service. It looks like Perl''s Win32::Daemon defines these: start....................The service is starting. pause....................The service is entering a paused state. continue.................The service is resuming from a paused state. stop.....................The service is stopping running..................The service is running

REGRESSION: Kernel PANIC 8777c5c11764d8336d8270f96778158c34c92108 - drm/nouveau/dp: probe dpcd to determine connectedness aspect to > the problem. please CC me, otherwise I might not see your message. The bug is very clear, I boot my machine, the screen turns black as soon as the X server is booted and the system does not ping anymore. I rebooted several times before the bisect and the bug always hit me. For my taste the offending commit is to large. So maybe I can split it in multiple smaller commits and than debug it. However I'm currently out of the office, so maybe tomorrow. If you do any progress on this, please CC me in order to avoid duplicate effort. Cheers, Thomas

constant low-bitrate for streaming test
dear vorbis developers, it would be very useful, if oggenc would support constant low-bandwith bitrates for testing. something from 20kbps to 44kbps, so anyone could test streaming over modem and isdn. audio quality doesn't matter. mörk --- >8 ---- List archives: Ogg project homepage: To unsubscribe

cheap cloud providors
Hey guys, Apologies in advance if this question is in poor taste. But I've really fallen in love with learning about the cassanrdra database. The only problem is that it doesn't run very well on an t1.micro instance at amazon and the larger sizes are quite expensive. An m1.small can do the trick, while still not optimal. So I was wonder if there was any...

Best Environment for development
This is a newb question, and probably one that is a matter of taste more than objective merit. I''m working on a home server, running Linux [FC 4], hosting a website [look for shortly]. I have a delightful new Windows XP Pro Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. What would the community recommend for the environment in which I develop? I don'&...

Inexpensive device for bandwidth management
...outer or stand-alone, but must be SIP-friendly. I`ve tried the DIR-655 (latest firmware is SIP-hostile, and the latest hardware revisions can't downgrade to the version that worked well) and the DI-724GU (SIP-friendly, but bandwidth management is automated and not configurable enough for my taste), both from D-link. What else is out there and allows me to do upstream QoS on cable/DSL links? Both D-Link routers were under 200$ (99$ and 159$ respectively) and were perfect price-wise for my target customers. COW and unredirect_fullscreen_windows
I'm using Compiz 0.3.2 on Gentoo with the Nvidia 9626 beta drivers. First off, I would like to state that Compiz is very, very nice. The effects are very tasteful and enhance the desktop experience instead of being distracting. Compiz itself works great, the animations are smooth and it's very nice that it now uses the Metacity themes. The only reason I'm not using Compiz full time is that it clobbers the framerates of my other 3D apps, aka gam...

g_vfs_done with offset greater than disk size
I''ve been trying to get a problem fixed with a Highpoint 1820a crashing out with errors like: kernel: IAL: COMPLETION ERROR, adapter 0, channel 2, flags=104 kernel: ATA regs: error 10, sector count 20, LBA low ff, LBA mid ff, LBA high ff, device 4f, status 51 which results in the disk being dropped from the array. A sharp eyed engineer at Highpoint has just spotted the fact that the read

Headsets for Cisco 7940/7960 for headsets that are known to work well. I do know that Cisco lists the H-91 and H-101 as certified to work, however these are both over-the-head type models. I was looking for an over-the-ear model, as I would like to be able to provide a variety of headsets depending on the individuals taste. I am not looking for a headset that requires an external amplifier, but rather a headset that can make use of the headset jack on the phone itself.
