bug in smbclient (?) 4.2.x
I posted this to the amanda-users ml earlier today, as I run several
amanda backup servers and hit this issue again today.

If you could re-try with Samba 4.5 or bisect back to what change
between Samba 4.1 and 4.2 changed the behaviour, it would be most
helpful.
