Tape backup question.
Hello, I want to backup my PE2800 on tape but I'm not sure how to do this. My PE2800 has a RAID5 setup with 2 72GB SCSI disks and a Seagate DAT-2 72GB internal tape-streamer and I'm running Centos 4.3 with the latest yum updates. I'm not sure if this tape-streamer is recognised by the OS properly because it doesn't show up along with my DVD/floppy I also recieved with the

rsync: connection unexpectedly closed; reverse lookups?
Hi. My goal is to use rsync to syncronize box1 and box2. On box2, I have a tapedrive which I write the data I syncronize from box1 every night. On box1, my /etc/rsyncd.conf looks like this: root@box1# cat /etc/rsyncd.conf max connections = 1 syslog facility = local6 [tmp] path = /tmp read only = yes comment = export of /tmp hosts allow = box2...

Broken pipe on ls after doing mount -t smbfs
...unt. I have a linux server running E-Smith (or Mitel SME server as it is now) which is basically a cut down version of RedHat 7.0 (running Kernel 2.2.19-7.0.8smp). Samba version is 2.0.10. We are connecting to an NT server (service pack 3 - I must upgrade that sometime soon). We have quite a good tapedrive and backup software (3rd party) on the E-Smith server, whereas the NT server has a poor tapedrive and hard to use backup software. I was planning to backup the NT server as part of the daily backup of the E-Smith server. # mount -t smbfs //<ntsrever>/<sharename> <mountpoint>...

Problem passing a HP-DAT (USB) device to domU (fwd) (this time with outputs!)
...device: Aug 8 00:04:49 localhost kernel: 1) see permissive attribute in sysfs Aug 8 00:04:49 localhost kernel: 2) report problems to the xen-devel mailing list along with details of your device obtained from lspci. ======================================================================= and the tapedrive wouldn''t work: udev fails to create devicefiles in the domU. I''m not quite sure what I''m expected to check in the /sys-tree: root has write-permissions all the way down the branches. I''m using the stable version of the xen-hypervisor 3.0.3-0-2 (debian)....

Adaptec 39320A woes
I'm having speed problems with the SCSI card we're using to do tape backup. It seems to be functioning in 16 bit mode and the current thinking is that perhaps it's using a legacy driver instead of the correct one. The Adaptec site has a 'driver' for RHEL5 which I've downloaded and tried to install but it seems to have a problem installing on a CentOS-5 system. [root at

Optimal strategy (add or replace disks) to build a cheap and raidz?
Hello, i have an 8 port sata-controller and i don''t want to spend the money for 8 x 750 GB Sata Disks right now. I''m thinking about an optimal way of building a growing raidz-pool without loosing any data. As far as i know there are two ways to achieve this: - Adding 750 GB Disks from time to time. But this would lead to multiple groups with multiple redundancy/parity disks. I
