JIRA anyone?
...e I can make of JIRA with Rails/Ruby and am
getting frustrated.
The jira4r gem will install but the soap4r gem won''t load.
literally: ''irb -r soap4r'' returns :cannot load such file...
I also set this up in a Gemfile and tried to run this from the rails
console:

in a major jam... authentication
I was upgrading my debian box and managed to upgrade my dovecot
installation at the same time. I wasn't planning on it, but it came
along just the same.
I took some notes on what I thought I needed to change, but apparently
it wasn't enough.
I've been running this for quite some time now with pgsql authentication
and it's been one of those nice applications that always

I was digging through some of the archives and ran into someone who was

"undo" a model
In the event that I really don''t want a certain model, can I delete it?
Is there a tool that I can use besides ''rm'' to ensure I hit everything
related to the model?
Right now my only guess is to just remove all files that match a
filemask and hope for the best.

not have to carry two copies of it (/etc/passwd and pgsql)
However, under openwebmail I don't seem to have this option as they are
really determined to require a home, uid, gid for each user that logs
in. As witnessed by the following line:

Sure looks familiar doesn't it? (see, it's relevant!)

imap support question
OK, I'm actually trying to write something which interacts with IMAP.
I'm trying to run the FETCH command and it goes OK, but I'm wondering
how I might be able to call both RFC822.SIZE and BODY[HEADERS.FIELDS(..)
in the same call. Right now I'm only able to get this to work with two
calls to the server. I was hoping to avoid making two calls.
Any suggestions?

Rails *that* slow?
I''m working on my first little rails-application. It''s a rewrite of a
gallery-script i once made (in PHP): http://notdotnet.net
However - my rails-version is waaay to slow :(
http://r.notdotnet.net/
I don''t do any heavy image-processing, I don''t have any
killer-algorithms with a time complexity on O(n^n), and I don''t use any
major hacks.

ruby suitable for financial apps?
hi there,
I am about to embark on a mission critical financial web application,
and was wondering weather ruby on rails is the best fit for this type
of project.
More specifically I am worried about floating point errors. Would it be
more appropriate to use a more statically typed framework (.NET)?
thankyou.

openssl config.
I checked and I do have the openssl-devel rpm installed
SuSE 8.2
openssl-devel-0.9.6i-12
openssl-0.9.61-19
dovecot 0.99.10
./configure --with-ssl-openssl
At the end of the configuration it says ssl support == 'no'
:(...
I was able to get pam support by picking up the pam-devel modules as
suggested.
But I got stuck here.
After reading up a bit on imap, it seems reasonable to have

configuration
I've noticed that there are some parameters mentioned in the docs that
aren't identified therein (ie: login_process_per_use).
Is there a more generic set of docs that can identify what each of the
parameters and what they do, or at least something that will allow me a
simple how to to avoid embarrasing situations.
I supposed I should only settle for ssl based connections (imaps/pops)

authentication configuration
I've included the non-defaulted bits of my dovecot.conf file at the
bottom of this email.
As I understand my set-up it's using unix authentication methods
(/etc/passwd via pam?).
Considering disable_plaintext_auth and auth_mechanisms, what exactly is
being passed? I was hoping to get
auth_mechanism = digest-md5
but that's not working out very well right now. It seems I can only

From dovecot-pgsql.conf
# Examples:

# connect = host=sql.example.com dbname=virtual user=virtual
There is a reference to identify the rest of the parameters via libpq in
the postgres documentation.
From postgres, libpq says the connection environment variables are:

'append aborted'
I'm copying all my archives from one imap server on one machine to the
imap-ssl dovecot server on another machine.
After a bit, there's an error that's tossed up on my mozilla client that
says the imap server couldn't complete the operation with the message
append aborted.
It keeps popping up after anything from 50 to 300 emails.
Last night I was able to move ~12000 emails

dovecot non-local users
From the docs:
System without local users
--------------------------
<snip>
Having one uid per user would mean that in case of a security hole in
Dovecot, the user still couldn't read other peoples mails. Use this if
possible.

I don't quite understand this one.
If you aren't a local user, what's the uid all about?
Do I do something like:

I'm trying to debug an application and keep running into this:

So is this really asking for "digest-md5" or am I S.O.L?
IIRC these are different protocols, but it's a bit early for my

SASL AUTH
I'm reading through the dovecot wiki pages for virtual hosting with
postgresql/postfix/dovecot/debian and it looks pretty nice but I think
I'm going to skip the SASL authentication since I'm in a trusted network.
I think all I need to do is skip section 5 entirely and bypass all the
sasl references in the postfix section.
Technically, I don't think any of the SASL has much to

IMAP limitation
I was trying to delete a LOT of email messages in one shot from
Thunderbird. I selected everything in a folder (>10,000) and then hit
DELETE.
I received an IMAP error. It clearly implied a limitation to just how
many UIDS I can submit on an IMAP request at a time.
Is this a limitation of dovecot? (I'm assuming it is).
I can work around this, I think, because I haven't found a
