eve online crashing shortly after takeoff
Hi all, I've got a strange problem with wine and eve-online. Eve loads up, lets me login and choose character, but freezes 10-15 seconds after that, pegging the cpu at 99% until I kill the process. Anybody have any ideas what causes that? Wall of text to follow, and am happy to post any more info needed. Thanks! Asus G50 laptop nvidia 9800GS, 512MB Ubuntu 10.04 Wine 1.2 terminal output:

inotify error and a file opened 1000+ times on a Samba share
I service a small office with 6 XP computers. I just installed a server running CentOS 5.4 and Samba 3.0.33. They use a program called "On-screen Takeoff". This program accesses a couple database files that live on the shared drive. "Projects.ldb" and "Projects.mdb" On-screen takeoff stays open all day, and maintains access to it's database files all day. The folks at the office complained that On-screen Takeoff woul...

tdm400p and dell 2600 poweredge
...he dell poweredge 2600 that this card is destined for eventually has all the power supplied on the backplane with no ide cables. The thing is, on the motherboard in the server, there is an ide ribbon connector, and beside that, something also marked ide, that looks suspiciously like a power supply takeoff. I've talked to the good folks at dell about this, and they are as clueless as ever. Has anyone run into this problem before and, if so, have you found the secret cable that turns the power supply on the board into a regular ide cable? AMD64 port in Lenny
Hello, I see a Xen hypervisor package for AMD64 in Lenny and unstable, but no xen-kernel for AMD64. Is there a linux-image-2.6-xen-amd64 package planned for Lenny? With regards, Paul van der Vlis. -- http://www.vandervlis.nl/

r SIG birth, life and death
...(SIG health, SIG growth, SIG moderation (in the social rather than the technical sense), and the like) I would greatly appreciate a pointer to any such material. Finally, I would like to find names and current contact information for SIG founders who were also active participants during the early takeoff (or crash or run-out-of-gas, as the case may be - negative results are important!) of that SIG. If I learn anything useful (and not confidential) in off-list conversations or correspondence, I will summarize it and post it here. I would be most grateful for any assistance. Peace, Andrew J. Another Fedora decision
I think it well to recall that the change which instigated this tempest was not to the network operations of a RHEL based system but to the 'INSTALLER' process, Anaconda. Now, I might be off base on this but really, ask yourself: Who exactly uses an installer program? And what is the threat model being addressed by requiring that the installer set a suitably strong password for root?

Asterisk 1.0.9 long term stability <--thread hijack, why not reboot?
Disclaimer: Not a troll I'm curious as to this obsession with uptime is. All of the posts of this type are along the lines of "After X days, Y thing does not work but if I reload or reboot, it's OK" - so why not cron a reboot? Is it considered bad form or something like that? I reboot every night whether it is needed or not, not afraid to admit it, and everything works fine for
