Performance Tuning - ZFS, Oracle and T2000
Hi All, We are currently in the process of testing Solaris 10 with ZFS and Oracle and are running it on a T2000. When checking performance statistics on the T2000, we notice that only one thread of the CPU appears to be doing any of the processing. Leaving all other threads seemingly idle. Are there any tuning parameters that need to be set or changed when running Oracle on T2000 using ZFS? Can anyone...

What is the 32 GB 2.5-Inch SATA Solid State Drive?
...GB 2.5-Inch SATA Solid State Drive with Marlin Bracket for Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120, T5220, T5140 and T5240 Servers, RoHS-6 Compliant This is from Sun''s catalog for the T5120 server. Would this work well as a separate ZIL device for ZFS? Is there any way I could use this in a T2000 server? The brackets appear to be different. -- -Gary Mills- -Unix Support- -U of M Academic Computing and Networking-

LSI RAID Configuration Steps on T2000
Guru''s, Is anyone shar with me the steps to configure hardware RAID in T2000 server (LSI drivers) and use rootdisk hardware mirror -- Thanks a lot! Q: T2000: raidctl vs. zpool status
Hi all, IHACWHAC (I have a colleague who has a customer - hello, if you''re listening :-) who''s trying to build and test a scenario where he can salvage the data off the (internal ?) disks of a T2000 in case the sysboard and with it the on-board raid controller dies. If I understood correctly, he replaces the motherboard, does some magic to get the raid config back, but even when raidctl says "I''m fine", zpool complains that it cannot open one of the replicas: # raidctl...

Asterisk + G.729 on Sun T1000/T2000
I am curious if anyone has tested Asterisk running transcoding G.729 -> G.711 (ULAW) on Sun T1000 or T2000. I'd like to hear about your experience. Is round-robin I/O correct for ZFS?
I''m testing an Iscsi multipath configuration on a T2000 with two disk devices provided by a Netapp filer. Both the T2000 and the Netapp have two ethernet interfaces for Iscsi, going to separate switches on separate private networks. The scsi_vhci devices look like this in `format'': 1. c4t60A98000433469764E4A413571444B63d0 <NETAPP-L...

zfs corruption...
..., server panics.  Are there any tools available on a zpool that is in an exported state?  I''ve got a separate test bed in which I''m trying to recreate, but I keep getting messages to the effect of need to import the pool first.  Suggestions? thanks Jay Hardware: Two Sun-Fire T2000’s running Sol10 8/07 s10s_u4wos_12b (SPARC) under control of Veritas Cluster. How to cut data elements included in a text line
Hello, assume I have an "unstructured" text line from a connection. Unfortunately, it is in string format: R> x [1] "\talpha0\t-0.638\t0.4043\t0.4043\t-2.215\t-0.5765\t-0.137\t501\t2000" How can I extract the data included in this string object "x" in order to get the elements for the parameter vector called "alpha0", i.e. -0.638 0.4043 0.0467 0.4043 -2.215 -0.5765 -0.137 501 Any hints how to handle this would be appreciated. Best regards, Ch...

Dummies in R
Dear all, my problem is following. I know Stata, but currently I have to use R. Could You please help in finding the analogy to R. (1) creating of City-Dummy. I know in Stata: g byte city=0 replace city=1 if city==12&year==2000 and (2) Create a Time-Dummy-Variable g byte T2000=0 replace T2000=1 if year==2000 (3) I need the City DUmmy for the following combination: I have the financial flows between two cities in the state and I need the paired-Dummy for the exporter (state1) and importer (state2): g byte city11=0 replace city11=1 if state1==12¦state2==12 (4) I am i...

Dtrace locks up on sol
...ds on a Solaris 10 box for the first time. I''ve heard wonderous things about dtrace, so the first command I type is dtrace -l which disappointingly does nothing at all. It just hangs, and neither Ctrl-D, Ctrl-C or kill -9 from another shell will do anything to kill it. The box is: SunOS t2000 5.10 Generic_118822-25 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200 top reports it using around 3% cpu, which corresponds to one hardware thread on the cpu i guess. These are the last few lines from truss -fo /tmp/dtrace.out dtrace -l 1323: ioctl(3, DTRACEIOC_CONF, 0x10010D340) = 0 1323: openat...

Solaris hardware crypto engines
Hello, I tried to find out how about to use the hardware crypto engines under Solaris (Sun Fire T2000). It seems, that its not just a compilation issue: > For operations that are to be offloaded, it is necessary to restrict use to subset > of OpenSSL functions (the EVP_ functions) and explicitly indicate the use of the PKCS11 > engine; something like the following works for bulk cipher...

USDT probes from PostgreSQL
while trying to use the USDT made available to us in Postgresql database I have problems enabling them. On my database server I ran 1024+ PG processes (1024 clients). The server is a 8 core T2000 @1000MHz. 32GB. 7 storage arrays. Solaris 10 Update 4. Home compiled PG 8.3 beta 1 (optimized binary for T1 chip) with DTrace probes enabled. When running without enabling the probes I have approx 25% of idle time. Expect there is some wait queue forming (and time being spend) on some locks. Fortu...

iostat -xn 5 _donot_ update: how to use DTrace
on Solaris 10 5.10 Generic_118822-23 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200 I run #iostat -xn 5 to monitor the IO statistics on SF T2000 server. The system also have a heavy IO load, for some reason iostat donot refresh (no any update). It seems like iostat is calling pause() and stucked there. Also my HBA driver''s interrupt stack trace indicates there is a lot of swtch(), the overall IOPS is not good. I have 24 CPUs on t...

ZFS raidz1 replacing failing disk
I''m having a serious problem with a customer running a T2000 with ZFS configured as raidz1 with 4 disks, no spare. The machine is mostly a cyrus imap server and web application server to run the ajax app to email. Yesterday we had a heavy slow down. Tomcat runs smoothly, but the imap access is very slow, also through a direct imap client runnining on LAN PCs...

We''re running a Cyrus IMAP server on a T2000 under Solaris 10 with about 1 TB of mailboxes on ZFS filesystems. Recently, when under load, we''ve had incidents where IMAP operations became very slow. The general symptoms are that the number of imapd, pop3d, and lmtpd processes increases, the CPU load average increases, but the ZFS I/...

set zfs:zfs_vdev_max_pending
We have a zpool made of 4 512g iscsi luns located on a network appliance. We are seeing poor read performance from the zfs pool. The release of solaris we are using is: Solaris 10 10/09 s10s_u8wos_08a SPARC The server itself is a T2000 I was wondering how we can tell if the zfs_vdev_max_pending setting is impeding read performance of the zfs pool? (The pool consists of lots of small files). And if it is impeding read performance, how do we go about finding a new value for this parameter? Of course I may misunderstand this para...
