SysVinit guidance, please
...ave to worry about mixed metaphors when you're an illiterate old coot!) I decided that the missing banners and the fact that the power was killed while a graphical page was displayed was what I saw. Anyhow, it seems that these extinct banners were a function of the /bin/shutdown routine in SysVinit because banners happen in CentOS 4.x whether the shutdown command is issued by fingers or by a UPS monitoring daemon. And I have since found that they're gone from CentOS 5, no matter how shutdown is invoked. After all of this, my question boils down to one of replacing the current Sys...

svnserve and SysVinit
Hello there and SFME. Since el6 subversion package doesn't contain traditional SysV demonization script anymore I wonder how it is supposed to run svnserve from now on. 1) Should one write init script to be managed with service(8) on his own? 2) Or launch svnserve on demand via (x)inetd? 3) Or put svnserve command line in some rc-script? 4) Or maybe is ra_svn deployment scheme not supported

correct order to rebuild init after libc6-xen?
Hello to all, Its been requested that I stifle the /lib/tls warning given even with xen-friendly libc6 because init was compiled otherwise. I got the deb sources for sysvinit from Ubuntu, which build just fine. The last time I tried this I ended up breaking signals to init (even though /dev/initctl was there and 666) and could not reboot. So for a new server, I''m going to : Base server OS (Feisty) Apt-get in libc6-xen Apt-get in gcc/python-dev/friends Compile...

Design changes are done in Fedora
.... (Mine, BTW is against, and I do not feel it fair to be discounted as a stupid minority as it is implied in your post). There is no point to repeat listing of ugly sides of systemd - which you said yourself are there. As far as "advantages" are concerned: I didn't see any compared to sysvinit or upstart. I don't care that _laptop_ with systemd starts 3 times faster - it's brilliant when you have to start it right on the podium few seconds before giving your presentation. However, my life is more influenced by the servers I maintain. BTW, when "counting votes" keep in m...

Help wanted with Debian Xen packages ?
Hi. I've been looking at the BTS and PTS and security tracker, and it looks like maybe you could do with some help ? Issues I noticed include: * 4.7, the latest Xen upstream release, is not in sid * Even leaving that aside, sid doesn't seem to have all the security fixes which ought to be expected. * The BTS could do with a bit of gardening, perhaps. Please let me know what, if

Systemd's [ OK ] in green beginning of line
