rtsavesysname not working in 1.4
I am trying to have asterisk update the system name in my realtime peers, but it does not seem to be working. Here is what I've done so far. - added systemname => mysystemname in asterisk.conf - set rtsavesysname=yes in sip.conf. - created a table called "sysname" in my peers table in mysql - restarted asterisk - rebooted my phone to force a re-register Is there something I'm missing? Thanks! David

How do I disable /usr/libexec/gsd-backlight-helper on a user's WORKSTATION? This is clearly something that should NEVER, EVER be running if it's not a laptop.... mark

how to insert dynamic hostname into shared CDR database
...asterisk variable for this, but haven't found anything yet. I know I can do something like Set(HOSTNAME=(System(/bin/hostname -s)) Set(CDR(userfield)=${HOSTNAME}) But that seems like more overhead than it should take to do this. Can anybody think of a better way? Hey, I just discovered ${SYSTEMNAME} * value of the systemname option of asterisk.conf which was turned off in my asterisk.conf, but then there's an option called autosystemname = yes With that enabled, ${SYSTEMNAME} is giving me what I want. I also spotted ${ENV(HOSTNAME)} which I assume would let me have whatever is set as...

Function SHELL not registered
If you just need the name of the system it may be contained in the variable ${SYSTEMNAME}. This is assuming you have the systemname set in asterisk.conf https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Asterisk+Main+Configuration+File That said, for SHELL support you probably need to set : live_dangerously = yes Also in your asterisk.conf https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Pri...

nt access
Hi !!!! Being new to Samba makes this very challenging, to say the least!!!! Anyway, I'm trying to connect from a NT to unix and when I try to login from NT here's what happens: C:\> net use x: \\systemname\tmp The password is invalid for \\systemname\tmp Type the password for \\nktest1\tmp: xxx The account is not authorized to login form this station. Anyone encounter this before?~ thanks in advance! john

Net bios Look ups
For some reason all of my Linux servers all of a sudden can't look up net bios names. Everything has been working great for months. If I do an smbclient -L ipaddress on any of them they all can see the master browser and show its name in the output. But if I try and do an smbclient -L systemname it immediately dumps out to the internet and tries to resolve the name using DNS. This of course does not work. I have many scripts that rely on mount -t smbfs that no longer work because they can not resolve the names. My internal network is all dhcp assigned addresses so that I can not hard co...

Update peer IP address
I do not want set allowguest=yes. The problem is, there is no official list with ip addresses of Telekom Germany. But I think all ip addresses comes from the ip range 217.0.0.0/13. I have now the following addition to sip.conf. I think it is the only safe option. Or what would you say? [telekom](!) context=from-trunk type=peer defaultuser= authuser= remotesecret= fromdomain=tel.t-online.de

Shared RealTime Database
Hi If we have a shared RealTime database for sip registration of multiple Asterisk servers, is there a way to realize which Asterisk server registered sip phones ? hostname in MySQL CDR records
I would like to send the CDR records from all our machines around the world to a single database. But I need the hostname included with each record for monitoring purposes. autofs handling of nis maps - Centos4
I have the following nis map (auto.facvs) * -vers=3 &:/disk1 Which allows hosts that have /disk1 exported to be mounted to /facvs/$hostname It works fine, but on Centos4, it allows me to cd /facvs/foo (where foo isn't a real host out there) I find it has mounted my local /disk1 as /facvs/foo. It seems to be ignoring the key in the map pertaining to the host if it's not a valid

...ail servers) /var/spool (mail, print, etc... servers) /var/www (web servers) /var/ftp (FTP servers) In some cases -- FHS 2.3+ compliant -- these are under /srv instead of /var. If I want local data/temporary storage, I typically create of the "discretionary" size: /export|home/(systemname) I like to make at least _3_ "discretionary" size, 2 mounted with 1 spare, so 1/3rd each. Again, in the day of LVM/LVM2, I typically just reserve 15-30% of the disk allocation instead of making pre-made spares of each class -- but I would at least make _2_ "discretionary" siz...

originating a sip call from the CLI
Hello again! I just got a SIP account and it seems - from a config on the net -, that I've configured it correctly. But I get no call to the outside. Registration was OK. I tried: channel originate sip/1/echo at iptel.org Application ... I see the channel active for a while, but no call gets established. In my config I have defined the section [iptel] for the outgoing call and I

asterisk as non-root/best practices
Hi, I have set up asterisk to run as non root, and allow admin users to log in to the server as asterisk, which gives them privileges to edit configs in the asterisk home directory. As for connecting to the console with 'asterisk -r' - this by default does not work as asterisk is owned stored in /usr/sbin/asterisk I am reading that the best way to solve this is to use 'visudo' -
