Books, other resources for new Rails VPS sysadmin
Hello! Since Virtual Private Server seems to be the only way to run Rails apps without problems, so in the future I will need to become a Linux sysadmin. I plan on using debian (as per Ezra''s instructions in <http:// brainspl.at/pages/perfect_vps>). Rails VPS sysadmin is not the same as general Linux sysadmin, since only webserver, db and email are of interest (and of

Why does dovecot reject password when authorizing by a certificate?
I have added "auth_debug_password=yes" to "10-logging.conf" and restarted dovecot.?But I do not see any information about the password in the logs. Does this mean that the thunderbird does not send the password??Although it asks for the password and I enter one. New log: dovecot: master: Warning: Killed with signal 15 (by pid=19769 uid=0 code=kill) dovecot: master: Dovecot

AuthenticationFailedException: [IN-USE] Couldn't open INBOX: Permission denied
I've been pouring over the documentation for dovecot, but can't find a solution to this problem. I recently took over administration of the dovecot email service at the University where I work, and things were going smoothly. We've been creating email accounts for use with JIRA, a bug reporting/tracking system, and one day recently, when I tried to add a new account to JIRA, I got

Why does dovecot reject password when authorizing by a certificate?
We have FreeBSD-server with dovecot installed on it as IMAP-server. My user and password database is a text file with plaintext passwords. Clients connect to imap-server via TLS protocol and plaintext password. All works fine. But I want to configure ability to authorize with a client certificates. I have generated a client certificate and imported it to email-client. Also I have configured

Why does dovecot reject password when authorizing by a certificate?
You probably need to also enable auth_debug=yes auth_verbose=yes also, are you sure you just don't have wrong password? Re: 400 Bad Request error from svn
It's nice to see that the OS where CentOS gets its sources from also experiments the same error! I have been very busy lately so I haven't had the time to deal with the problem, probably later this week or early next week. As soon as I find something Ill let you know. Hopefully you'll do the same if you come across the solution first. PS. Forwarding this message to the mailing

Re: login sugar
Well, it turns out that this piece of software requires that a new user call the welcome action. The welcome action changes the user''s state to verified. Once the user is verified, he will be allowed to attempt authentication. The login page actually states this which is useful to me once I read it. I get the URL to the welcome action from the e-mail sent out or the development.log

Re-setting groups each run?
Hi, I''ve added in some initial user management to my growing puppet configs, and I''m seeing an odd behavior in that it is trying to set the groups for the users each time, despite them already being set. The list of groups it is setting for the user contains each group twice, in what seems to be a random order, like this: notice:

JOB | Sysadmin/Lead Platform Engineer (Singapore or London)
Hello, I'm working with an employer that is looking to hire someone to be responsible for the modernisation of their on prem environment. There will be lots of VMware and traditional sysadmin work; moving into more of a Kubernetes/ Python/infra-as-code heavy role only once the migration project is completed (say 12 months). Consequently I had hoped that some members of this group may like to

Installing R with all packages
Hi, I want R to be installed on a UNIX network (Solaris). I am not the system administrator and so I cannot do it myself. The system administrator wants to know which packages I want, and it may be a lot. Is there an easy way to download and install all packages at once? Is it a good idea? (There is a good chance that I do not need the some few packages that do not install well during such a
