syncronizing file content into device content
I have repeatable cases where a (very large) file contents are the
intended content of a device (partition) of that exact size. The
target device is already mostly of that content, but a few block
have been changed. I want to restore the device contents back to
what the file originally was. I'm trying to find a way to have
rsync's write end open the device as a file and do its thing to

Using rsync to syncronize two unmounted disk partitions
Hi everybody,
I have been using rsync for quite some time, and I've realized it is a
fantastic tool. As it is able to syncronize two CD images, I was
wondering, if I could do that with a harddisk partition. Would it be
possible to syncronize two partitions at device level somehow?
I mean using:
# rsync /dev/hda8 /dev/hda9
skipping non-regular file "hda8"
where /dev/hda8

Syncronizing two IMAP servers
I spend time in two places, in different countries.
I have a local network in each place,
with IMAP servers on each network.
I collect email by fetchmail from various servers,
and read email on my laptop with KMail.
I tried using just one IMAP server, but this proved impractical.
So I have two collections of the same sub-folders, on the two servers.
I have two questions:
1. Is there a simpler

Syncronize large file
i have several large .tar backup file on the server
it's about 2 GB and 4 GB
the question is, if i syncronize using rsync to other
computer, rsync will re-transfer the whole
1 big file, or only transfer part of the file ?
or maybe i should reduce the size, by splitting the file
into 650 Mb each.
or it's the same as if transfering via FTP ?
thanks

Keep harddisks (volumes) syncronized over network for live migration on Linux
Hi,
I have 5 very identical server running xen 3.0.3 (Debian etch std.
packages) with serveral DomUs.
Theres my question: It is possible to keep thier lvm volume groups or
singe logical volumes synchronized over network?
Example:

domU1
on volume group xenserver1
with logical volume domU1
and LV domU1-swp

with logical volume domU2
and LV

OCFS2 and direct-io writes
I am looking at possibility of using OCFS2 with an existing application that
requires very high throughput for read and write file access.
Files are created by single writer (process) and can be read by multiple reader,
possibly while the file is being written. 100+ different files may be written
simultaneously, and can be read by 1000+ readers.
I am currently using XFS on a local filesystem,

Kernel panic w/ DAHDI 2.x/Digium TE220B
I've seen this consistently on three systems, with three different
cards, and multiple versions of DAHDI. At first I thought the issue
only occurred on newer, Nehalem-based, systems, but I reproduced it on
a Core 2 Duo box as well. I've tested with dahdi-linux 2.2.0.2, dadhi-
linux-complete 2.0.0+2.0.0, 2.1.0.2+2.1.0.2, and 2.2.0.2+2.2.0. The
card is a Digium TE220B which uses the

rsync is slowing down
The cause is, of course, that the tree being syncronized ie getting larger,
so of course rsync is slowing down. But in the case of my particular file
tree, there is a way it could be speeded up, but this would obviously also
need a change in the rsync protocol to accomplish it. Any tree that has
major unchanged subbranches would benefit from this.
The file tree I'm syncronizing in this case

Samba domain time sync woes (Debian Bookworm)
FWIW, I looked at the settings in our domain (all of which I did myself).
I used to explicitly set up ntp time sources in our network for all windows
workstations before, and I continued to provide these after conversion from
nt4-style domain to samba AD-DC. The NTP records are provided by DHCP, and
are configured in the GPO, both with regional differences (choosing the local
NTP servers within

Syncronization in rails
Hello,
Here is the logic that I am trying to achieve. I have a User Model and
the business rule is that user can accept maximum 5 friends requests.
for this I have an accept method in User Model which looks similar to
below code snippet
def accept(friend)
raise ArgumentError if self.friends.count >= MAX_FRIENDS_ALLOWED
...
...
#code to add friend to friends list

the machines are syncronizing with the Samba Server when the user Logoff

clients have never synchronized before.
I understand that i'm not using roaming profile, because the logon
path is empty. The only difference in this domain is that

Password Syncronization with Mapped users
I'm not sure if this is supported or not, but I can't get it to work.
I'm trying to get the smb password and the unix password to sync for
mapped users. I have have 'unix password sync' turned on and I have the
username mapping file set up. When I change a users password in windows
(where the username is the same in windows and linux) the password
changes just fine. When I
