best way to calculate per-parameter differences in across-subject means
Hello, I have some data in a data.frame where for each of a number of subjects, I have scores for all of a number of symptoms. Subjects are subdivided in a number of groups, which have unequal sizes. I'd like to plot between-group differences in the scores on the various symptoms. Ideally, that would be in a form as would be produced by > bwplot( Score~Symptom ) but I'm not sure one can say anything about...

Help with many-to-many using :through
I am using many-to-many using :through since I need to store additional information in the join table. I am doing this and it seems to work. I want to verify that this is the best way to do this. Cisco 7960 lockups - any experiences?
...the phone locks up. "Locks up" means that the bottom part of the screen ("Your current options" and the redial/newcall/cfwdall keys) disappears, and all keys on the keypad are non-functional except for the *-6-settings reboot keys. Previous software (4.4) exhibited the same symptoms. I replaced the 7960 with a brand new 7960G, thinking it was bad hardware. Same symptoms. I replaced the power supply, thinking that perhaps could be the problem Same symptoms. I upgraded to 6.0. Same symptoms. I replaced the ethernet cables. Same symptoms. I invoked an ancient curse...

NA's in multiple choice summary table in Hmisc
...multiple side effects, I want to display these side effects in a multiple choice table. I'm using the summary and mChoice functions of the Hmisc package, because it produces nicely formatted latex tables. My problem is, that table includes a category for people who have at least one absent symptom and I don't know how to exclude it. Here's a very easy reproducible example: library(Hmisc) Symptom1<-c("Headache","Headache",NA) Symptom2<-c(NA,"Anxiety",NA) Symptoms<-mChoice(Symptom1,Symptom2) summary(~Symptoms, method="reverse") Descrip...

Multivariate Multilevel Model: is R the right software for this problem
Hello, I've been trying to answer a problem I have had for some months now and came across multivariate multilevel modeling. I know MPLUS and SPSS quite well but these programs could not solve this specific difficulty. My problem: 9 correlated dependent variables (medical symptoms; categorical, 0-3), 5 measurement points, 10 time-varying covariates (life events; dichotomous, 0-1), N ~ 900. Up to 35% missing values on some variables, especially at later measurement points. My exploratory question is whether there is an interaction effect between life events and symptoms - a...

Win98 asks for IPC$ password
Hi all, After I converted my Linux desktop from Mandriva 2008.1 with Samba 3.0.28a to Ubuntu 9.04 with Samba 3.3.2, my Windows 98 box could no longer connect to my Linux desktop via Samba. The symptom was that Windows kept asking for the IPC$ password. Linux clients have no problem with the Ubuntu Samba server. My machine is called "mydesk", and on every Linux box in the house, the following did what they were supposed to: smbclient -NL mydesk smbclient //mydesk/tmp -Uslitt I ope...

Help! Mysterious samba problem...
For some strange reason, a samba setup which was previously working has suddenly stopped working, and I can't figure out why. The symptoms is that attempts to write some files onto a samba filesystem take a long time, and then error out with the error message (in Windows dialog box): "Cannot create or replace <filename>: The specified network resource or device is no longer available." On the Samba server side, the...

[REGRESSION] nouveau: Memory corruption using nva3 engine for 0xaf
Hi Ben, Dave, Since 3.5-rc0, I have been experiencing occasional screen corruption on my MacBookAir3,1, using a GeForce 320M (nv50, 0xaf). The X driver version is xf86-video-nouvea-1.0.1-1 (arch). I do not know what the root problem is, but I have been able to isolate the symptoms to the usage of nva3_copy.c. The patch below is the least intrusive way I could find which kills the symptoms. Hopefully this will sched some light on the true problem, such that a fix can be found for 3.5. Thanks, Henrik The nva3 copy engine exhibits random memory corruption in at least one ca...

bizarre system slowness
...nce 500 PPM" messages. There was a lot of messages about "the system limit for the maximum number of semaphore sets has been exceeded"; there was indeed a lot of leftover semaphores created by NRPE (owned by the nagios user); I deleted them but nothing has changed, so they were a symptom, not the cause. I'm still kind of hoping it's a software issue, but chances are slim. OTOH, I can't imagine any hardware problem that would exhibit these symptoms. Any idea what to test? -- Florin Andrei http://florin.myip.org/

Rusting Snoms?
This is a bit off topic, because I 'think' it isn't an Asterisk problem. However I'm not sure and anyhow I'm hoping someone may recognize the symptom. We moved offices a month ago. Our trusty SNOM190s (all between 3 and 5 years old) were packed up for the move, then unpacked a couple of weeks later. On unpacking them and connecting them to the new network, several of them didn't work well. The symptom is that outgoing RTP audio is garb...

Wish for arima function: add a data argument and a formula-type for regressors
Hi, Using arima on data that are in a data frame, especially when adding xreg, would be much easier if the arima function contained 1) a "data=" argument 2) the possibility to include the covariate(s) in a formula style. Ideally the call could be something like > arima(symptome, order=c(1,0,0), xreg=~trait01*mesure0, data=anxiete) ( or arima(symptome~trait01*mesure0, order=c(1,0,0), data=anxiete) ) instead of present: > anxiete$interact = anxiete$trait01*anxiete$mesure0 > arima(anxiete$symptome, order=c(1,0,0), xreg=anxiete[, c("trait01", &quo...

calculate likelihood based on logit regression
Hi, I just ran the following logit regression. But can anyone tell me how to calculate how much more likely males (Male=1) could show such symptom than females(Male=0)? I know it must be simple to get once I have the coefficients, but I just don't recall. Thank you very much! Call: glm(formula = Symptoms ~ 1 + Male, family = binomial(link = logit), data = HA) Deviance Residuals: Min 1Q Median 3Q...

Trouble with mChoice() in the Hmisc package.
Hi All:-- I've started using the the Hmisc reporting facilities recently, mostly successfully. I'm having some trouble with mChoice() multiple-choice objects, though. Here's some example code and output from R-help a couple of years ago: library(Hmisc) Symptom1 <- c("Headache", "Headache", NA) Symptom2 <- c(NA, "Anxiety", NA) Symptoms <- mChoice(Symptom1, Symptom2) summary(~ Symptoms, method="reverse") [Output:] Descriptive Statistics (N=3) +-------------------+-------+ | | | +-...
