USB Audio sound card
...d find a short-depth one). "Nay!" I say. What about USB Audio? I don't need 5.1 or 7.1 audio here; I'm plugging in a Dell monitor soundbar. A quick search of the web says that yes, these devices will work under CentOS and show up as /dev/dspX devices. So, do devices like these: SYBA SD-CM-UAUD USB Stereo Audio Adapter http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186035 Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Amigo II USB Interface Sound Card & Headset Adapter http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829118008 StarTech ICUSBAUDIO USB to Stereo Audio Adapter...

Cheap ZFS homeserver.
So after toying around with some stuff a few months back I got bogged down and set this project aside for a while. Time to revisit.

Looking around there still is not a good "these cards/motherboards" work list. the HCL is hardly ever updated, and its far more geared towards business use than hobbyist/home use. So bearing all of that in mind I will need the

SATA controler req
Hello, I'm looking for a recomendation for a SATA controlers. In the range of 4-8 ports, either PCI or PCIe (for desktop use) and/or PCI-X, PCIe (for server use). I'd especially like it if the Linux driver was already in CentOS or easily added. Problem detecting Sil3124 SATA controllers off of Sandy Bridge northbridge-connected PCIe slots
Hi, We're having some trouble with detection of a couple of Sil3124 SATA controller cards on newer motherboard and processor combos. Specifically, we're running a Supermicro X9SCM-F motherboard (latest BIOS) and Intel E3-1220v2 CPU. What we're seeing: - Syba Sil3124 PCIe cards are only being detected when installed in PCIe Slot 4 -- The motherboard documentation shows that this is the only slot connected to the Intel C202/204 chipset on the motherboard -- Slots 5, 6, and 7 are connected to the integrated northbridge on the Ivy Bridge CPU (there is n...

Motherboard for home zfs/solaris file server
Hello, I am building a home file server and am looking for an ATX mother board that will be supported well with OpenSolaris (onboard SATA controller, network, graphics if any, audio, etc). I decided to go for Intel based boards (socket LGA 775) since it seems like power management is better supported with Intel processors and power efficiency is an important factor. After reading several

Need to test serial port connection
I recently bought a new UPS, and I''m attempting to use nut to monitor it. Following setup instructions everything seemed to go well until it came to testing the connection, which failed. There is just one serial connector on the computer, so I set it to monitor /dev/ttyS0. Either that is wrong, or communication is failing. I''ve been told to try minicom to monitor it,
