Freeze when swithing vt
Hello. I am running 0.3.6 compiz under Fedora Core 6 and nvidia 1.0-9631
binary driver. I have noticed that switching to console with ctrl-alt-f1
and then back to x with ctrl-alt-f7 locks up the system with a black
screen more or less (sometimes the lockup is complete, sometimes the
cursor moves and it is possible to switch back to console), A user on
nvnews forums suggest that disabling sync to

[Bridge] swithing trunk (tagged 802.1q traffic) with brctl
Hello,
My name is Ferm?n Gal?n and I work as Research Engineer at CTTC, Spain. I'm
trying to configure a bridge with brctl to switch VLAN tagged traffic
(802.1q), but I'm getting some problems.
In particular, I've a physical interface (eth2) connected to a Cisco trunk
port (so, the traffic to/from eth2 is tagged). I've added eth2 to a bridge

cant swith to text mode consoles
After installing xfce I switched to runlevel 5 to have a graphic login.
But The login box (and xfce) doesnt let me switch to text consoles with
ctrl+alt+F key. Also, xfce is the desktop for root, but for normal user
still is an ugly windows manager.

Loop swith String replacement
Hi All,
I'm trying to split my dataset, into multiple datasets that i'll analyse
later, i wanted to do this dynamically as i might need to rerun the code
later.
I was looking at doing this via a loop, (Are other methods more appropriate?
Would a function be better?)
However i'm not sure in R how do do string replacement within the loop in
order to create unique dataset names based on

Fedora Core 2, cPanel and Ruby
Hi,
i have a live server with Fedora Core 2 and cpanel.
I want to install Ruby 1.8.2, so i can use rails, but it has some
dependencies that need to swith the computer to Fedora 3.
It requires a new version of openssl, which breaks dependencies in a LOT of
packages.
What do you recommend me to do? Update the whole system (how?), use some
kind of chroot to install the new version of ruby...?
Thanks in advance,
Rodrigo.

directory /dev/disk/by-label
...l to the boot line and booting up sure enough
the /dev/disk directory does not exist.
What "creates" that early on in the boot process?
My CF card was changed from UUID to LABEL. So I edited grub.conf and make
root=LABEL=/
like the OLD 5.X days.
Clearly I have missed something else when swithing back to a LABEL method.
I want to use LABEL because I want to duplicate cards.
Thanks,
Jerry

Some questions.....
...o the following assembly, and I''d be very
grateful if I got some help from an expert like you.
I''m trying to build a system which represents the following:
I''ve got a hosts unit (host1, host 2, ...) which have IP in the network 192
168.1.0/24. All of them connect to a swith (SW1). On the other hand, I have
3 web servers (W1, W2, W3) which are connected to other switch (SW2).
What I need to do is to add a firewall, using shorewall, between the two
switchs to stop any access from the SW1 area towards the SW2 but for the web
traffic, that is, to protect the three web s...

one way choppy sound problem !
...n the
direction x-lite -> PSTN is very bad. That is, the voice of the x-lite user,
heard by the PSTN user is choppy and makes communication not very pleasant.
The sound is choppy as if bits of data were lost. The strange thing is that
the x-lite user hears the PSTN user fine !
In x-lite, I have swithed off sience detection (transmit silence - yes),
this has improved the sound quality but did not eliminated the problem. I
have fed a countinious sound into the microphone and still got chops in the
sound. I have also tried changing the codecs gsm, alaw, ulaw - but I get the
same problem with all o...

LVM related bug in the GPL PV drivers for Windows?
...doing so, I changed the domU config this way:
#disk=[ ''phy:/dev/mapper/vw-storman2,xvda,w'' ]
disk=[ ''file:/home/vw-storman2.bin,xvda,w'' ]
And it works now!!! The BOIS and the builtin windows driver has the same
view of the disk as the gplpv driver. I can even swith between the
paravirtualized and fully virtualized mode of windows, it doesn''t even
want to check the integrity of the disk after the changes in either
direction, and virtually no filesystem damage occurs when I do so.
I''ve examined the disk image when to domU was running:

Problem reading/writing permissions under Windows (V 2.2.8a)
...at error, I found a message in wich the author wrote this would happen frequently because Windows often tries to read/creat files that do no really exist. That's fine with me, but actually there is a real error causing the problem I describe: When I open the properties of any file or folder and swith to the security task, Windows shows me the users owning it, but not the permissions (exactly, it tells me that nobody of these has any permission). When I try to set any, nothing happens (it returns to none) and I find new NT_STATUS errors in the log.
Can someone help me to fix that issue? It woul...

call waiting from PSTN
I'm trying to switch from one call to another incoming call from PSTN.
When I'm getting a "beep" I press flash but instead of swithing to the
second call, I'm getting a dial tone. even if I press *0, I cannot connect
to the second call.
Anybody had this problem?
