asterisk compatible, hot swappable PRI card
...e. We are aiming to replace the primary phone line so the service must be up as long as possible so we are looking at ways to avoid shut downs. We are looking for a solution to allow us to add/remove PRI cards without shutting down the system Is there such a thing as an asterisk compatible hot-swappable PRI card and board ? Someone told me to look at the C-PCI technology, it seems that telecom company use this. Thanks Patrick

RAIDs and JBOD?
...dancy be achieved with JBOD? Also regarding RAID 5, three drives of data to one for parity is the max ratio I?believe? I.e. to expand this by adding another data drive, the original parity drive would no longer cover this and another would be required, is this correct? One more question about hot swappable drives, I understand that you can create RAID arrays with and without hot swappable drives but I am confused by this concept. I'm my experience with RAIDs I have only every delt with a RAID 1 that has degraded. I simply set the drive as offline, replaced it, set it to online and the RAID rebui...

[PATCH supermin] init: Delete initramfs files before chrooting into the appliance.
After supermin has finished running, the initramfs files sit around occupying swappable memory but serving no further purpose. USB flash drive and VMs (Was Curmudgeoning)

Live CD Planning systems
My company supplies me with a very nice HP nc2400. Much faster, more memory, etc than my old HP nc4010. Problem is the drive is not swappable, and they encrypt the drive (the OS is XP). The nc2400 has a DVD/CDRW and 2 USB 2.0 ports so I was thinking..... Make a Live DVD with everything I need but map /etc /root /home and /var/log (and what else?) to a USB flash drive (16Gb are available and I was just sent a PR on a 32Gb, maybe I c...

who broke keyboards again?
...a keyboard he gets: atkbdc0: <Keyboard controller (i8042)> at port 0x60,0x64 on isa0 but no: atkbd0: <AT Keyboard> flags 0x1 irq 1 on atkbdc0 kbd0 at atkbd0 This used to work, then was broken by someone trying to "do the right thing". We need the keyboards to be hot swappable. I recommend that the next dork that breaks this should have to reenact the lye scene from Fight Club. No other OS has this problem. Also, breaking this in -stable is super lame, c'mon can't we do better? -- - Alfred Perlstein - Research Engineering Development Inc. - email: bright@mu...

[OT] External RAID storage / NAS
Hello List, I need storage for my home network - lots of storage. It's going to hold pictures, home movies, music, other bits of data, etc. I'm looking to start at about 500 GB, but I'd need to eventually grow that to 1 TB, or more. I also want something that is quiet, has hot swappable drives (not necessary, but a plus), is fairly easy to manage, and can be directly attached to the network. Obviously, it has to work with Linux distros, and support NFS. I've done some research, and so far the ReadyNAS NV+ looks to be the best. Is there anything else similar to the ReaddyNAS...

T100P -->>> TE120P
Hi Folks, I have a T100P ordered from Digium in the past. Its working perfectly fine but I now need to more the server to India (out-sourcing) and we will be getting an E1 line there. Does anyone know if T100P was capable (upgradeable) or swappable so that I could use it with the E1 lines instead? Any pointers to driver/firmware update would be highly appreciated. Thanks. Suggestion for a new server for E1 line
...erver that's compatible with this board. With "compatible" I mean that's not having any problem like IRQ sharing, IRQ miss or kernel panic with DAHDI/Zaptel drivers or unwanted hangup or noise during the conversation. My other needs are: 1. At least two RAID disk (preferably hot-swappable but I'm looking also for solution without this feature) 2. Possibly with redundant power supply 3. 1U or 2U size 4. As cheap as possible. Our customer is pushing to have the HP Proliant DL120 but I think it's not fitting the 24/7 needs it has. The server will be used to dispatch calls com...

trouble booting install CD on old machine
...g this will be fairly quick but is not sure to work. --remove the system disk, put it into another system that is known to boot the 5.7 CD, install there, then put the disk back. This could be somewhat time consuming (the machine is in a rack, and the system drive is buried in the chassis, not hot-swappable), but is pretty sure to work. --try to boot from USB. As I said, it's an old box, so I'm not sure it supports booting over USB media. There were no "boot from USB" options in the BIOS; I could try to flash the firmware, but that seems excessive for this sort of issue. Other th...

Replacing failed software RAID drive
...s. When a drive fails on one of them I just replace the drive and carry on with out having to do anything else. I now find myself in the situation where I have a failed drive on a non-MegaRAID controller, specifically an Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller. The system is an Acer G700 with 8 internal hot-swappable SCSI drives arranged in two banks of 4 drives. Each bank is connected to a separate channel on the 29160 controller. When I installed CentOS 4 I enable software mirroring between the two banks so that I ended up with 4 pairs of mirrored drive (sda/sde, sdb/sdf, sdc/sdg, sdd/sdh). The problem I h...

Plot command drops part of the plot for large plots in multiple figure environment
...problem are: The data I am plotting consists of 4 dataframes and 4 strings: d1 - d4 are dataframes of dimension 308160 x 21 that contain a column named "det_ok_num". BPS1 - BPS4 are strings I'm running R 1.51 under Windows XP and I have 2 Gb of core memory, 800 Mb free, and 5 Gb swappable. All variables are in memory; the total amount of memory used by the Rgui process is slightly less than 400Mb. The plot command I use is Fplot6_Det_OK (d1, d2, d3, d4, d1, d2, BPS1, BPS2, BPS3, BPS4, BPS1, BPS2) I am using the following two small plot functions: Fplot6_Det_OK = function(d...

centso 5 modifying my ifcfg-eth[x] files
I have a machine with 2 network cards. Installing centos 5 on it. I set up both cards with static IP addresses. activate on boot etc... One is e1000 Intel the other is onboard forcedeth (nvidia). After I reboot the forcedeth ifcfg-eth1 file is changed to DHCP. I use netconfig -d eth1 to set it back up and reboot again and the changes back to DHCP. Only thing to add here is the network card

ext4, 4k sector alignment
...to copy with a file-oriented approach. The current filesystem is ext3 with one partition that uses the entire disk capacity (no lvm). It works as is, but... I'd like to use a laptop size drive for the swapped member and the only ones available that match the size have 4k sectors. I have swappable, trayless SATA bays available for both drive sizes. The problem is that with the current partition layout, the drive with 4k sectors takes more than a day to re-sync even though on read access the speed is a match for the full sized drives that sync in a few hours. My questions for any files...

Odd Question... MAX Ram Disk Size
Greetings, Before I get slammed, I've looked all over the internet for the answer to this (googled and more) and haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. Here's what I need. I have a server that I use to hold workstation images. I use a Linux boot CD combined with some scripts I wrote and some disk imaging software to allow me to image windows workstations. Anyway, when
