and it hangs at 'Discarding device blocks: 0/58607505' which I gather
is related to 'trim' aka 'discard'.
iostat shows this drive as 100% busy with no activity, and 1 pending
operation in the IO queue.

trying to follow the ha-drbd HOWTO on the centos wiki...
I prep two identical systems with centos 5, leaving some disk space
unassigned (they only have one scsi drive), create /dev/sda4 partitions
on each to use for the repdata...
I install the modules, create a /etc/drbd.conf like...
[root at svfis-blade03 ~]# more /etc/drbd.conf
#
# please have a a look at the example configuration file in
# /usr/share/doc/drbd/drbd.conf
#
global { usage-count no; }
resource repdata {
protocol C;
startup { wfc-timeout 0; degr-wfc-timeout 120; }
disk { on-io-error detach; } # or panic, ...

tcpdump?
Did the latest Centos4.x kernel break the ability to tcpdump with any
amount of traffic? Machines that used to be able to keep up now show a
few packets and stop - if you hit ^C they take a minute or so to do
anything, then show something like:
54 packets captured
18188 packets received by filter
18070 packets dropped by kernel
Before recent updates I almost never saw packets 'dropped

cluster service
I've setup the CentOS version of the RH Cluster Service on a pair of
centos 4.4 i386 test boxes... wanting to do high availabilty stuff.
its working, I've added a virtual IP and a fiberchannel hosted e3fs file
system thhat either can mount, if I manually crash or reboot one, this
IP and FS mount on the other, awesome.
the servers are connected to the storage via a QLogic SANbox
