BUG? 'valid users' doesn't allow groups from trusted domains
...th domains ADS, etc. ad infinitum. I just don't have the
resources. Is this a bug or is it by design? If you folks think it's a
bug, then I'll submit it as a bug report. If I'm misunderstanding
something, please enlighten me or point me to the appropriate docs.

Inclusion of libnss_wins in vendor distros?
...ch.conf
must be edited to enable it -- I don't see the mere presence of
libnss_wins.so on a system making it any less vulnerable, just as having
a key on the inside of a locked door doesn't make the house any less secure.
Any good reasons why it wouldn't be included?

Domain member, security = ADS|domain and trusts with NT4
...domain (security = domain) and authentication is
against the PDC for the CLUNKY domain.
How can I ensure that users in both CLUNKY and SLEEK can access the
Samba server? Will joining the Samba server to SLEEK with security = ADS
allow this? Will Samba honor the domain trust?

Using Winbindd in nsswitch.conf

they aren't hurting anything by being there.)
I believe I have the windbind options in smb.conf configured correctly, and
winbindd is starting automatically. In my situation, the Samba server is
also acting as a WINS server.
Thanks,

Migrating from NT4 PDC to Windows 2003 ADS; Samba as member server
...in order to preserve our sanity. How can we
establish a domain trust so that a Samba server that is joined to the
CRUSTY domain will allow access for users that are authenticated against
the SHINY domain?
Is there a better way? (I can RTFM, but I need to know where to look.)

Adding a Windows Server down the road
I just started at a new company and they do not have a server at all I
want to put a samba server in place but I need to make sure that in
the future I could add a windows server if we buy software that
requires it. Does anybody know if this is possible to do? I ideally I
would like it to import the users and their information to the AD on
the windows server but is not required.
Thanks

Re: Samba to ADS 2003
...A further note: you will not be able to use the moveuser.exe tool
(mentioned in the second post above) on a Windows Vista workstation.
Instead, you will need to install Win32_UserProfile WMI on your Vista
boxes. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930955 for more information.

Browsing with duplicate names in multiple workgroups/subnets and multihome machines
...that.
At this point, I'm not really seeking solutions, but perhaps a technical
explanation of what might go on in this situation. Even if there were no
naming conflicts, what are the implications of having two multi-homed
non-routing Windows machines on common networks?

Browsing Problems
Hello.
I've got a Samba server and I'd like it to be master browser and
everything else except domain controller (the customers wants a
workgroup, not a domain).
Lately a Windows 2003 server was added to the net and then I guess it
was removed.
I keep getting messages like the following in the logs:

Samba 3.0.14 and w2k3 terminal server / strange logon problem / is this in general possible
Hi.
My Situation:
- One Machine with samba 3.0.14 acting as DC, DHCP3SERVER, BIND9 and
dynamic DNS
- One Machine with w2k3 server standard edition acting as DOMAIN MEMBER,
TS and Citrix Access Essentials.
- Domain Logons are working perfect.
- Name resolving works fine. Reverse, Forward, NB, FQDN, IP ...
- RDP Connection to the TS with local useraccount on the TS works fine

HOW TO: Migrating users' locally-stored profiles from one domain or workgroup to a new domain

the user account to be migrated and performs the steps outlined above.
The "new" user profile need not be created; you should be able to create

How to keep local profiles when joining domain?
Hi
I hope someone can help
We currently have Windows
XP Professional PCs that logon to an old Novell Netware
3.12 server. We?re just using the standard Windows
Netware client, and each user has a Windows XP User
account and password that matches their Novell one.
When they logon to Windows, they are automatically
authenticated to Novell.
However, we are now in the final stages of

ssh tunnelling with putty
Could someone provide some help tunnelling a connection through a ssh pipe
using putty on a windows 98 client to a samba server?
I think I am doing it correctly but can't map a samba share and can't figure
out how to debug it
I can't find any log files or any other way to determine how the connection
attempt is proceeding
Any tips?

...rotocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(342)
Upon adding a newline, the problem went away.
Perhaps the documentation could be clarified: "...as a single line
followed by a newline." Or something to that effect.
What, you mean I'm not supposed to take it literally? :-)

Script repository?
...passwd backend?]
Sometimes, users may want to do more than what the *nix tool offers.
It would be nice if there was some place where there was an archive of
scripts that others have created so that the rest of us don't have to
reinvent the wheel. If you know of it, let us know.

Changing user SID or Domain (doesn't work)
...there is a fairly complex security structure)
HELP!
I guess the moral of the story is to convert to PDC mode before moving
accounts from smbpasswd to tdbsam. If there were a way to just change
the domain using pdbedit, that would be wonderful, but any solution
will be appreciated.

Roaming Profiles
Hi
I am using Mandrake 9.2, Samba 2.4 version as a PDC. How do I enable the
roaming profiles on the server via /etc/samba/smb.conf?
Thx
