zaptel.conf in /etc not /etc/asterisk - historical reason?
Hello all I am in the process of trying to create a more fault tolerent HW setup for my asterisk platform, its all going well and I intend to do a wiki about it once its seen to be working. One thing gets me, and hopefully someone here can confirm my suspision - why is zaptel.conf not with the other asterisk files (I assume it is because its responsable for bringing up the hardware, not strictly part of the asterisk application) Would someone care to confirm my suspision, and if I'm wrong advise me why. As a follow on to this - if i were to move i...

Bad message_id occasionally when connecting a MacOS to a freebsd running 4.8.2
Hi, I am running Samba 4.8.2 with fruit and use it to connect a MacOS to the server. Mostly it works very good, but occasionally the connection halts or the Mac disconnects, and in the log I find these messages: Jun 20 13:00:00 orca smbd[6033]: [2018/06/20 13:00:00.856101, 0] ../source3/smbd/smb2_server.c:641(smb2_validate_sequence_number) Jun 20 13:00:00 orca smbd[6033]:

My suspision here is with the MacOSX SMB2 credit handling. Have you asked Apple ?

Performance (and other) problems
.../ applications servers for the 330 Win95 PCs that they service and attempted to replace them with a single AlphaServer 8200 (Digital Unix (OSF/1), Samba, 4GB RAM, 2x525Mhz cpus). The results were *not* good. In fact, it was terrible. We have since gone back to using the original 3 machines. My suspision is that the clients are making way too many demands of the servers. In particular, we serve the applications (Office, WP, etc.) to the clients from shares on the servers. These "application servers" are constantly busy, especially with CPU time. When loading all this onto one server, i...
