IMHO it would only be so when the developer of the ransomware is a fool! why should he

Rating R Helpers
Since R is open source and help may come from varied levels of experience on R-Help, I wonder if it might be helpful to construct a method that can be used to "rate" those who provide help on this list. This is something that is done on other comp lists, like http://www.experts-exchange.com/. I think some of the reasons for this are pretty transparent, but I suppose one reason is that

(no subject)
Hi Guys, It is very simple question, but I can't find the answer! Please help me. I use R and such simple function as length() doesn't work. The result is always 1 even if my data are more then 1 observations! Do I have to load any additional library? > length(Ret_1) [1] 1 > length function (x) .Primitive("length") Thank you!!! -- Best regards, Andy Fetsun

Capturing buffered output from Rterm
In MS Windows I a) invoke Rterm from a batch file (test.bat) b) to execute commands from a script (m:\test.rsc) c) capturing output in a log file (m:\test.log) BUT if the script results in an error the error message is NOT written to the log file, leaving me problems when the error is from a complicated function. Simplified example:. test.bat ------------------------ REM ensure

IE iframe bug with Autocompleter over HTTPS
I ran across an issues using the Autocompleter over HTTPS in IE (6.0 in WinXP Pro SP2). I plan to submit a bug report to the Ruby on Rails trac, but first I''d like "to discuss this on th[is] Mailing List beforehand, maybe it''s already known and in the works, or it isn''t a bug" (per http://wiki.script.aculo.us/scriptaculous/show/BugReports) The autocomplete

lme4 question
Dear R Colleagues, I run the following two models: mod1 <- lmer(y ~ category + subcomp + (1 | id)) mod2 <- lmer(y ~ category + subcomp + category*subcomp + (1 | id) where: category has 4 possible values subcomp has 24 possible values id has approx 120 values (id is nested within category, and in unequal numbers--i.e., unbalanced) Then to look for differences in the models I run:

Panasonic Hybrid Integration Advice Needed
I have a client who has a Panasonic Hybrid system. They are taking in another company as a building tenant and the tenant will be on a new 12 station Asterisk system. This new asterisk system will have 4 FXO ports plus ITSP. The two systems will be separate except that they should tie together for the purposes of dialing extensions directly on the opposite phone system and for transferring

Loud pop at the end of messages causing level problems
Hi everyone, I've set up a little Asterisk system with a Digium TDM400P and everything works splendidly except for the messages callers leave. Every message that a caller leaves is very faint. I've already set volgain=6.0 in voicemail.conf, and that seems better, but to be at a good volume I estimate I may need to go up to 40.0. Is that reasonable? One interesting artifact is that at

how to get a qemu Windows XP guest to connect to a Samba domain
I'm running Debian/Squeeze on my desktop and have installed a qemu virtual machine (actually the qemu-kvm fork) with a tap interface to the network. The guest operating system is Windows XP. It can see my Samba shares and connect to them but I can't get the virtual machine to join the Samba domain (Debian/Lenny server). Because of this, I also can't log on using a domain user

Calculating variables
Dear fellows: This is the problem: I have 5 variables A, B, C, D and E with a range from 1 to 100 with 0.1 steps. Depending on the different values these have, the results of the formula change: alitemp <- ((Abase/llmcc$Clase)*PClase)+(((1/llmcc $Categoria)*Abase)*PCategoria)+((Abase*llmcc$Phi)*PPhi)+((Abase*llmcc $Rf)*PRf) So, alitemp (a 283 element series) changes if any of the P**

New PAM kbd-int code
http://www.mindrot.org/~djm/openssh/openssh-newpam-20030123.tar.gz Is a snapshot of the new PAM-via-KbdInt authentication support from FreeBSD's OpenSSH tree. Please test this now. I can only surmise by the silence that has greeted my previous requests for testing that the code works perfectly. -d

If it is a DC, the samba daemon is started and then this starts the smbd & winbindd daemons, u...

Xapian and Synonyms
Hi guys I've just had a thought about something we do with our search on ReportBuyer.com: we cater for both American and British English in our searches and we have had plans for a while now to implement something that allows users to find 'colour' and 'color', 'tap' and 'faucet' by doing some clever programming. Looking at the Xapian docs, though, it appears

Xen IBM X3400 boots dead
I am attempting to install a Xen solution on an IBM X3400.  The raid card is the IBM M1015 which is based on the LSI 9220-8I. I followed the directions on the tutorial called "RHEL6 Xen4 Tutorial" at http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/RHEL6_Xen4_Tutorial .  When I attempt to boot the kernel the computer freezes. I don''t get any errors or anything helpful. I have also attempted to

Use of gidNumber attribute in user entry
A few questions about Unix groups in Samba. (1) "samba-tool user add" has an option to set --gid-number. However, I can't see that this attribute is ever used. Can someone confirm if this is true? From digging around previous mailing list postings (*), I surmise the following: - the user's Unix primary gid is taken from their primary *Windows* group (primaryGroupID, which

Conversation interrupted by fax
...ife said "it wasn't me, and there was a horrible fax sound on the line and I couldn't make any calls". Now, what is really interesting is the micro second before the call dropped, I heard my youngest child start to screech - dinner was being served, he was hungry ;) What I am surmising is that the fax detection is still running on a connected call, and decided that the child's screech was a fax machine and jumped into receiving a fax . Is this possible ? I do have fax detection on (zapata.conf). Is there anyway of turning fax detection off if the call has been connected ?...

Does S inherit the enhancements in R language?
I don't know anybody who has S-plus these days, but I expect some of you might, and perhaps you won't mind telling me something. I'm working on my presentation about R for the general audience. As I survey the suggestions from this list about that project, I find myself wondering whether S-plus benefits from R. Does S-plus syntax change like R's does. I can take code for S and
