Rating R Helpers
...In other words, you can trust the advice of someone who is more experienced more than someone who is not. Currently, there is no way to discern who on this list is really an R expert and who is not. Of course, there is R core, but most people don't actually know who these people are (at least I surmise that to be true). If this is potentially useful, maybe one way to begin the development of such ratings is to allow the original poster to "rate" the level of help from those who responded. Maybe something like a very simple questionnaire on a likert-like scale that the original poster w...

(no subject)
Hi Guys, It is very simple question, but I can't find the answer! Please help me. I use R and such simple function as length() doesn't work. The result is always 1 even if my data are more then 1 observations! Do I have to load any additional library? > length(Ret_1) [1] 1 > length function (x) .Primitive("length") Thank you!!! -- Best regards, Andy Fetsun

Capturing buffered output from Rterm
...ternal(inherits(x, what, which)) : 'x' is missing" is is NOT written to the log file, which just ends m:\test.log -------------------------- <snip> > print("this is a test") [1] "this is a test" > #generate an error > nls() --------------------- I surmise this is due to output buffering (?). In an S-Plus version I turned off buffering with guiSetOption(option.name="BufferOutputWindows", value.string="F") but I don't think this is available in R (?). Has anyone any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Keith Jewell --please do...

IE iframe bug with Autocompleter over HTTPS
...ter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(apacity=0);" '' + ''src="javascript:;" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>''); The ''src="javascript:;" causes IE to load some non-secure page (a commenter surmises that it may load "about:blank"). Regardless, IE deems this "page" as non-secure. I tried removing the "javascript:;" bit, making the scr a zero-length string, but that throws the same warning. src="'' + document.location.href + ''" throws...

lme4 question
...ook for differences in the models I run: anova(mod1, mod2) I receive this warning message after the last command: In data != data[[1]] : longer object length is not a multiple of shorter object length I think I know why this is happening (i.e., the two models are of different length). Is my surmise correct? If I am correct I don't think I should worry. Should I? Thanks.

Panasonic Hybrid Integration Advice Needed
...tensions directly on the opposite phone system and for transferring calls. I'm looking for advice on how best to accomodate this. Is it possible to do this via the Panasonic's IP interface or will I need to cross connect them via T1 cards? This is my first integration as you can probably surmise. Loud pop at the end of messages causing level problems
...olgain=6.0 in voicemail.conf, and that seems better, but to be at a good volume I estimate I may need to go up to 40.0. Is that reasonable? One interesting artifact is that at the end of every message, there is a loud pop (I think I usually hear a faint click when the caller hangs up and then I surmise that the loud pop is some sort of local connection ending. If I do: sox msg0004.WAV zz1.WAV stat it always tells me that the volume correction should be 1.0000. I surmise that the volume peak is triggering on this loud pop. In fact if I trim off the pop with something like: sox msg0004....

how to get a qemu Windows XP guest to connect to a Samba domain
...ntials) in order to get access to the network resources. I note that the samba shares I connect to shows that I am connecting to the server string from smb.conf. Interestingly, Windows XP thinks its ip address is 10.0.2.15 with a default gateway of 10.0.2.2 while my network uses 192.168.1.x. I surmise that tap uses some form of NAT to handle to the routing. However, this pushing the limits of my networking expertise. Any ideas on how to get a virtual machine to join a domain? p.s. Merry Christmas everyone.

Calculating variables
...binations of those 5 variables that approximates the desired results. Although I can make use of a 'for' loop, Im not sure of how to combine the whole 5 variables changing at once. I understand there are many possible combinations (factorial of 5000!, 422 with some 500 digits) but I surmise there must be a better way to do it. So far, I have been changing them manually, but this task make the whole thing terribly slow and inneficient. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks. Cuanto mas grande son, mas daño hacen. C8: Wayland Session / Cut and Paste

New PAM kbd-int code
http://www.mindrot.org/~djm/openssh/openssh-newpam-20030123.tar.gz Is a snapshot of the new PAM-via-KbdInt authentication support from FreeBSD's OpenSSH tree. Please test this now. I can only surmise by the silence that has greeted my previous requests for testing that the code works perfectly. -d

Xapian and Synonyms
...p' and 'faucet' by doing some clever programming. Looking at the Xapian docs, though, it appears I can do this using synonyms although the documentation's not clear on how this works (sorry if this is starting to sound a little annoying). Having dug through the mailing list, I can surmise that: o Synonyms only need to be added to a database once and are transaction-persistent o They're activated by adding the flag FLAG_AUTO_SYNONYMS to the QueryParser Which isn't a lot; so what I'd like clarification on is: o Are synonyms database-persistent (i.e once adde...

Xen IBM X3400 boots dead
...Xen4 Tutorial" at http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/RHEL6_Xen4_Tutorial .  When I attempt to boot the kernel the computer freezes. I don''t get any errors or anything helpful. I have also attempted to boot the Linux kernel I compiled to use with Xen on its own and it behaves the same way. I surmise that there is something wrong with how I configured the kernel. Assuming this is the problem I can''t verify for sure if the Xen image is functional or not. I am at a loss as to where to go from here. I''m thinking a different kernel maybe or perhaps I have a mistake I just can...

Use of gidNumber attribute in user entry
A few questions about Unix groups in Samba. (1) "samba-tool user add" has an option to set --gid-number. However, I can't see that this attribute is ever used. Can someone confirm if this is true? From digging around previous mailing list postings (*), I surmise the following: - the user's Unix primary gid is taken from their primary *Windows* group (primaryGroupID, which points to the RID of a Windows group entry) - the Windows primary group must have a gidNumber attribute, otherwise the user is not visible in Unix at all - therefore the gidNumb...

Does S inherit the enhancements in R language?
....mail-archive.com/r-help at stat.math.ethz.ch/msg11585.html. After that, I was terrified that any name I used might conflict with a built in R function name. Last month, i saw a student here with a political model and he used rep as a variable in a regression model, it seemed to work just fine. I surmise that the rise in usage of namespaces in R packages accounts for that? I'm sorry if this is too OT for r-help. pj -- Paul E.
