boostrap an nls regression
Hello there I have the following model based on the hollings disc equation for the type II functional response for 2 data sets: nls(eaten~(a*suppl)/(1+a*h*suppl) where eaten is the number of prey eaten by a predator and suppl is the number of prey initially supplied to the same predator. I have parameter estimates of 'a' and 'h' for the two populations studied and would like to know if there is a significant different in the...

What steps to take
...t install Samba on the machine I need to list the shared printers from. I started analyzing the smbclient code hoping to extract the necessary info but as you all know it's a daunting task. Certainly for a C novice. Which is why I want to ask if there is anyone out there who can help me. Be it suppling me the entire or partial code, provide some detailed steps I should follow so I can figure it out myself or just clues. Anything really, I'll filter it. Extra info: I relaly just need to list the printers shared on Windows 2000 systems (as far as I know). I don't need authentication or...

OpenVPN tunnel and one-way audio - Do I still need a SIP proxy?
Hi Everyone, I have setup an OpenVPN tunnel between Server A (running Asterisk) and Server B suppling it's SIP Phones with DHCP pool of IPs. So, the tunnel is established nicely and everyone can ping others. "sip show peers" shows the local subnet of the SIP Phones registered (192.168.100.0/24 ). But there is the old bad one-way audio. Calls also drop after few seconds. In the SI...

nlm, hessian, and derivatives in obj function?
I've been working on a new package and I have a few questions regarding the behaviour of the nlm function. I've been (for better or worse) using the nlm function to fit a linear model without suppling the hessian or gradient attributes in the objective function. I'm curious as to why the nlm requires 31 iterations (for the linear model), and then it doesn't work when I try to add the derivative information. I know using nlm for a linear model isn't the "optimal" method,...

n-levels of nested resources in REST?
Hi, I find it would be very convenient to nest resources in two levels, so a member is only sensible as a part of a club, and a fee pament is only sensible in the context of a club and a member. Is it possible to nest nested resources? How would the syntax be? I have tried just nesting the assignment in routes.rb, but failed to get it right What do ou think? Is it possible? /Fredrik --

Help with permutation function from Turner et al. 2010 (Ecology)
Hello, I'm using R code that includes a residual permutation that was written as a supplement to the paper: Turner et al. 2010. A general hypothesis-testing framework for stable isotopes ratios in ecological studies. Ecology 91:2227-2233. The supplemental code is available at: http://www.esapubs.org/archive/ecol/E091/157/suppl-1.htm When I execute the function, no warnings are give...

S-code for piecewise regression
Dear R-helpers, a S-code for piecewise regressions was provided by Toms & Lesperance (2003) Ecology, 84, 2034-2041 (paper can be found on the web). The code is quite complete with different types of transitions around breakpoints and model selection fonctions. It doesn't work directly under R due to some "translation" problems I guess. However I reckon that it would be a

Salut Alex.

Their R scripts are shown here ( http://www.int-res.com/articles/suppl/m436p257_supp/m436p257_supp1-code.r). Tail area of sum of Chi-square variables

Fitting with error on data
As this forum proved to be very helpful, I got another question... I'd like to fit data points on which I have an error, dx and dy, on each x and y. What would be the common procedure to fit this data by a linear model taking into account uncertainty on each point? Would weighting each point by 1/sqrt(dx2+dy2) (and taking dx and dy as relative errors) in a lm() fit do the job? I would like to
