Printing from Samba to Authenticated printer on W2K3 in ADS
Greetings, I have a pack of SunRay network computers in kiosk mode and I need to print to the Pharos printing system. Not surprisingly, Pharos runs on Windows. It is currently set up on Windows 2003 server. To print to this system you have to authenticate to the Activate Directory the Pharos server is a member of. I thought...

What has been swapped out?
I have a SunRay server that I am looking at to determine some sizing requirements in my department. The machine has 16G of ram and 10G of swap. Currently, I have about 4G of swap used. I am wondering if dtrace/mdb can be used to find out what lwp/processes have been swapped out? Any hints? This message posted...

Unable to create directory?
...ot the response "ERROR: cannot write to or create directory '~/lib/R'" Before I try to get my sysadmins to work on this, is it a non-R problem (i e something wrong with directory premissions) or is it some R detail I've missed? Hints anyone? (I run R in a Unix environment: a SunRay/Solaris combination.) --robert

x11 and pseudo-color
for some reason the following message seems not to have reached the list in the first try, at least I can't find it. my apologies if this is my fault: we are running R under Solaris with SunRay Terminals, which are set to 8 bit color to comply with some other software. In this configuration, X11() opens with colortype=true, i.e., it is not recognized that actually the display is only 8 bit. This leads to error messages (advising to use 'pseudo.cube'). question 1: is X11() suppose...

Praise and thanks
Hey all, I just wanted to express my thanks for the help and advice that I got off of the list. We have successfully replaced our aging NT4 server with a Sun E250/Solaris 8/Samba 2.2.4/Sunray system, acting as a PDC for our Win98/2k/XP clients (BTW: didn't need to use the XP registry hack at all) and with a Win2k server hanging off of it for application and remote desktop services for the Sunrays. It is fast, it is MUCH more responsive than the NT4 PDC, easier to control users, pas...

computation with vectors of length 0 (PR#2716)
Full_Name: Klaus Hermann Version: 1.5.0 OS: SUNRAY - Unix Submission from: (NULL) (213.61.59.254) if we produce a numeric vector of length 0 and want compute the sum over its elements the sum function returns 0 - this is obviously misleading. Better would be to return NA and give a corresponding warning. There should be a unified strategy to han...

Remote/Local X differences
"Local" is a Debian SID laptop. This is the machine on which Wine runs-- XFree86 4.03. "Remote" is a Sunray, so it is essentially a Sun Xsun Xserver. I have tried this on an 8-bit NCD X server, though, with the same results. This is a followup to a post ("X11: Oracle Forms runs fine locally, but not remotely") from 6/20. To sum up: I have an application using Oracle Forms. The applicatio...

How to prevent deletion of files on the client side?
...clude I setup the /etc/rsyncd.exclude file to prevent transfering logs files or system specific files (SSL certificates or passphrase): - /logs/ - /conf/ssl* - /conf/passphrase Now, the mirror server pulls the apache module with the command: rsync -avz --delete --delete-during rsync://websecure@sunray/apache/ /usr/apache/ The daemon runs as nobody on the server, and as the /conf/passphrase file is excluded from transfer, it does not try to access it. If it tries, I would have a permissions error as it is readable by root only. But on the client side, I have to run as root to correctly set the p...

Hotplug issues on USB removable media.
Hi, As a part of the next stages of the time-slider project we are looking into doing actual backups onto removable media devices such as USB media. The goal is to be able to view snapshots stored on the media and merge these into the list of viewable snapshots in nautilus giving the user a broader selection of restore points. In an ideal world we would like to detect the insertion of the

USDT probe issues in C++
Hi people, When working with some usdt C++ probes we have come across a few issues. Controlling USDT Function name: Putting in usdt probes into C++ code gives you the mangled enclosing function name for the probes Function name. Working around this can be a pain. You need to wrap your usdt probes in extern C functions and call these. Could we have an option to control the Function name for

Problem with ZFS and ACL with GDM
I am the maintainer of GDM, and I am noticing that GDM has a problem when running on a ZFS filesystem, as with Indiana. When GDM (the GNOME Display Manager) starts the login GUI, it runs the following commands on Solaris: /usr/bin/setfacl -m user:gdm:rwx, mask:rwx /dev/audio /usr/bin/setfacl -m user:gdm:rwx, mask:rwx /dev/audioctl It does this because the login GUI programs are run as the

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year. Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!! Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost. Minimum requisites should be: - working well with Open Solaris ;-) -
