Getting netbios alias to work
Hi Need to setup netbios alias on a server. When users connect to sunone they reach home and some other shares. suntwo is a archive share. I can't authenticate against the pdc on sunone and suntwo. Ask for user/passwd on each netbios alias. Connecting to sun10 works. If i switch to shared on security and guest ok this setup works. When connecting to the aliases i...

SAMBA 3.0.8 Authentication/Configuration problems with LDAP (SunOne Directory Server 5.2)
Q#1. What SAMBA related object classes and attributes I must add to a POSIX user in LDAP (SunOne DS 5.2) before it can be used by SAMBA for authentication? Q#2. Why does the SAMBA log for the user show the error ?FAILED with error NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD? even before the user is prompted for username and password on the SAMBA client? Also in this log, I saw another error ?NT MD4 password...

Samba 3.0.4 fails to compile on Solaris 9
I have been trying to compile Samba 3.0.4 on a SunFire v880 running Solaris 9 but "make" generates a fatal error. My goal is to get Samba compiled with the "--with-ldapsam" option so that I can use SunOne Directory Server 5.2 as the back-end repository for user authentication. I have gcc version 3.3.2 installed in /usr/local/bin/gcc which I have used to successfully compile other applications. This is one of my ./configure attempts: # ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/samba-3.0.4 --with-ldapsam --...

Anyone have the latest 99samba-schema-netscapeds5.ldif for SunOne/iPlanet. The latest one is only from 1/2005. I need one that has the attributes for 3.0.21. I will convert the latest openldap one but just wanted to see if anyone has already done it. Thanks

Samba 2 PDC upgrade to Samba 3 - group mapping problem
...I have my ldapsam_compat configuration wrong? Again, I would have thought that specifying ldapsam_compat would have meant maintaining operational capability with a working Samba 2.2.x+LDAP installation, but apparently I was wrong...? On a possibly-related note, does anyone know where I could find SunOne DS-compatible Samba schemas? The latest version I've been able to find was listed compatible with Samba <= 3.0.10. TIA, Ryan relevant smb.conf: [global] workgroup = DOMAIN netbios name = DOMAIN-PDC server string = Samba 3 PDC encrypt passwords = Yes passwd program = <REDACTED> pass...

I'm using SunOne DS 5.2 LDAP server and the following entries in my smb.conf file, ldap admin dn = "uid=admin,ou=Administrators,ou=TopologyManagement,o=NetscapeRoot" ldap ssl = off ; ldap suffix = "dc=testlan,dc=bbc,dc=co,dc=uk" ** have tried with this attribute on and off ** wi...

Sun ONE and Samba
Has anyone had success using Sun ONE as an LDAP (authentication) back-end to Samba (preferably 4.0, but 3.3 would be fine)? I've found people who've tried and given up. Sun itself hasn't provided answers, but I haven't given up on them; I'll keep reformulating my questions, and asking again. One speculation on my part is that, if I can just figure out where in Sun ONE the

Permissions issue sharing data from multiple servers via multiple protocols
...at seems to be the best solution is to use winbind to map AD groups to UNIX uids/gids using LDAP backend to maintain the mapping database, is there any documentation on how to achieve this? I want to avoid having local winbind maps with different random mappings on different Samba servers. I have a Sunone LDAP server with which to host this mapping data. This still leaves me with the problem of how these permissions might map to non-smb clients accessing the same data, ie UNIX client mounting the data via NFS. I guess this basically doesn't work unless I install winbind on every single unix cl...

Samba Ldap Understanding
Hello Andrew and all, I have a question about Ldap and Samba. I've implemented samba in the past, but never with LDAP. I tried reading the Howto, however it seems that most of the examples are lean more toward using OpenLdap. I'd like to know about using Samba with and external LDAP server provided by a third party (ie Iplanet or other). ** How do I ensure that Samba work with third

SAMBA and LDAP Schema's
Hi there! I am wanting to get hold of a list of the various schema settings for Samba as a PDC with an LDAP backend database. I need a break down of all the object classes, the attributes and which of the attributes are required/optional. I have taken some of my information from: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/howto/passdb.html#id2532816 under the section on LDAPSAM I have been able to

Windows and Linux account locking with an LDAP backend
I thought I would ask here to see if anyone has had a similar situation and a solution. We've got a SunOne Directory Server set up to authenticate our users on Linux. To get shared authentication with Windows, we set up Samba (2.0.33 as ships with CentOS 5) and the smbldap-tools. What we need to do is get account locking to work across the board...such that if a user fails 5 times on a Windows machine...

Winbindd has still bottlenecks when used with interdomain trusts.
...years in a domain with more than 10000 users and multiple departments. We have a central Domain running a PDC and some domains in the departments. The domains in the departments are connected to the central domain via interdomain trusts. All PDCs are samba 3 using the same LDAP backends (very fast SunONE LDAP infrastructure). This way the administrators of the departments are able to handle the profiles of their users and workstations locally while the user database is in the central domain: Picture: Central PDC <-- trust --- (1..n) department PDCs This works quite well.
