Vanishing Permissions on Shares
...t 9.0 box with the 2.6 test kernel ( so I can use ACLs).
I am running Winbind and it works great.
The client workstation is Win2k Sp4.
I have logging on full debug @ 10, and nothing obvious is showing up. In
fact no errors are being reported at all.

RedHat Samba 2.2.7a-8.9.0 RPM complete?
Does anyone have information or know how I can find out what option this
rpm was built with? ie with winbind on...
I still seem to be having odd winbind / samba / acl problems (cannot get
perms. modified via a Win2k station to stick).

Samba 2.2.8a file permissions not working
We have upgraded from Samba 2.2.7a to 2.2.8a. We have samba running
our our two UNIX file servers, one is Solaris 8 and the other RedHat
Linux 7.3. Samba was compiled as follows:
configure --prefix=/opt/samba --with-acl-support --with-quotas
Right now it doesn't looks like changing file/folder permissions are
working from W2K. When we right click on a file/folder and go to the

Character Set conversion from EBCIDIC to ASCII
Hello,
We as an organization are going to use SFTP for our data transfer. Our requirement is to SFTP the file from IBM Mainframe (z/390) to Unix or Windows. Currently we are using FTP, which converts the character set from EBCIDIC to ASCII and also take care of CR and LF aspect.
My question is, do the same feature is available in SFTP, where it smartly understand the source and destination

Drag and Drop and Crash
Hello List,
I am running a 3.0.24 server on redhat EL4. I have a user that has mapped a
drive to his home directory on the server. When he copies a file from the
share to a local disk location, desktop for example, it goes just fine. When
he attempts to copy / move / cut and paste a file from one location on the
share to another location in the same share, it will literally crash his local

In creating a Windows binary package (zip), how do I make the installation configurable
I would like to create a binary package for Windows which when
installed will give the user an option of whether to install
one version or another.
Here is the problem, I have a package 'FAME' that can run
in two different modes on Windows. An old mode that uses
R to connect to a remote linux machine and a new way that
uses a locally installed database.
I would allow this decision to be

Machine-level shares on Windows server
Hi,
I have Samba 3.0.22 running on a VM-hosted ubuntu 6.06, with the VM
existing to host a Bugzilla server for our development team. I'd like to
be able to periodically backup the MySQL database to a remote device on
our domain.
The PDC is Win2003 SBS (named simply "sbs"), & I have successfully got
the "bugzilla" machine joined to the domain. The bugzilla computer

Simulate an AR(1) process via distributions? (without specifying a model specification)
Dear All,
Is it possible to simulate an AR(1) process via a distribution?
I have simulated an AR(1) process the usual way (that is, using a model
specification and using the random deviates in the error), and used the
generated time series to estimate 3- and 4-parameter distributions (for
instance, GLD). However, the random deviates generated from these
distributions do not follow the

Factorial, L-moments, and overflows
Hi everyone,
In the package POT, there is a function that computes the L-moments of a given sample (samlmu). However, to compute those L-moments, one needs to obtain the total number of combinations between two numbers, which, by the way, requires the use of a factorial. See, for example, Hosking (1990 , p. 113).
How does the function "samlmu" in the package POT avoids overflows?

Calling C functions with value parameters
One hassle I could do without is the necessity of writing C wrapper functions
like this:
void fameInit(int *status){
cfmini(status);
return;
}
when I want to call a library function (cfmini, in this case) that takes an
int argument. The .C interface only lets me pass a pointer to an int, rather
than the int itself.
Is there any chanch that .C could be enhanced to allow passing arguments by

Fw: Logistic regresion - Interpreting (SENS) and (SPEC)
Dear Mr Peter Dalgaard and Mr Dieter Menne,
I sincerely thank you for helping me out with my problem. The thing is taht I already have calculated SENS = Gg / (Gg + Bg) = 89.97%
and SPEC = Bb / (Bb + Gb) = 74.38%.
Now I have values of SENS and SPEC, which are absolute in nature. My question was how do I interpret these absolue values. How does these values help me to find out wheher my model is

problems with gluster 3.2.4
Hi, we have 4 test machines (gluster01 to gluster04).
I've created a replicated volume with the 4 machines.
Then on the client machine i've executed:
mount -t glusterfs gluster01:/volume01 /mnt/gluster
And everything works ok.
The main problem occurs in every client machine that I do:
umount /mnt/gluster
and the
mount -t glusterfs gluster01:/volume01 /mnt/gluster

Solaris 10 Branded Zones & Exclusive IP Zones
In an effort to get a better understanding of Crossbow I decided to create some vnics for use between a couple of Solarsi 10 branded zones. I was quite surprised that when I went to verify the setup within zonecfg I got the following error.
zonecfg:virt1> verify
Error: solaris10 zones do not currently support exclusive ip-type stacks
virt1: Brand-specific error
Is this a feature that is
