nouveau on Linux/sparc64 SunBlade 100
...solution to
my lack of good graphics options for my aging sun system.
I saw here before back in early December of 2011 a most of someone
saying that it seemed that the nouveau drivers almost worked with him
and is Sun Ultra 10. I am someone who is very fond of my Sun systems, I
have two "SunBlade 100"s, and a "Sun Ultra 5". I have always been
annoyed at the lack of good video card options when using these systems.
I would love to have more room on my screen then 1024x768. So when I saw

Odd behavior of NFS of ZFS versus UFS
I have a test cluster running HA-NFS that shares both ufs and zfs based file systems. However, the behavior that I am seeing is a little perplexing.
The Setup: I have Sun Cluster 3.2 on a pair of SunBlade 1000''s connecting to two T3B partner groups through a QLogic switch. All four bricks of the T3B are configured as RAID-5 with a hot spare. One brick from each pair is mirrored with VxVM 4.1 with a ufs file system on top of the mirror. I have mirrored the other two bricks via a Zpool. I ha...

system unresponsive after issuing a zpool attach
Today I attempted to upgrade to S10_U2 and migrate some mirrored UFS SVM
partitions to ZFS.
I used Live Upgrade to migrate from U1 to U2 and that went without a
hitch on my SunBlade 2000. And the initial conversion of one side of the
UFS mirrors to a ZFS pool and subsequent data migration went fine.
However, when I attempted to attach the second side mirrors as a mirror
of the ZFS pool, all hell broke loose.
The system more or less became unresponsive after a few minutes....

Solaris/NUT 'wall' behaviour
I have compiled and installed NUT-2.2.1 on Solaris 10 on my Sunblade
2000 and it seems to work very well, except that the behaviour of
'wall', which upsmon uses to report significant events, may differ on
Solaris from other systems. On Sol10, wall writes the message *only* on
the console, unless the "-a" switch is used. On a standard JDS (GNOME)

SAMBA Installation and Configuration
I am a newbie to both UNIX and SAMBA and I would like to install Samba
2.2.2 on a Sunblade 100 workstation running Solaris 8 to be utilized as
a file and print server via TCP/IP with a small network of machines
running Windows 98SE and Windows 2000 server. Could anyone suggest
documents or references I might consult in order to obtain detailed step
by step instructions for successfully...

filesystem remounted as read only
Hi,
I'm running kernel 2.6.8-15, lvm2 v2.01.04-5 and acl v2.2.23-1 on a
Sunblade 100 (sparc). In a few months we have experienced for several
times that an ext3 filesystem is remounted as read-only (this is due
to the option "errors=remount-ro" in /etc/fstab). Sometimes there is
no error in log files but sometimes we see:
kernel: init_special_inode: bogus i_mode...

Samba 2.2.5 on Solaris 8
Hi all,
i compiled Samba 2.2.5 with gcc on a Sunblade with Solaris 2.8. Last month i
compiled Samba 2.2.4 on the same machine without problems.
The following options i used:
./configure --with-winbind --with-pam --with-quotas
I got the following warnings:
Linking bin/wbinfo
Compiling nsswitch/winbindd.c
Compiling nsswitch/winbindd_user.c

SPARC SATA, please.
Is there a card for OpenSolaris 2009.06 SPARC that will do SATA correctly yet? Need it for a super cheapie, low expectations, SunBlade 100 filer, so I think it has to be notched for 5v PCI slot, iirc. I''m OK with slow -- main goals here are power saving (sleep all 4 disks) and 1TB+ space. Oh, and I hate to be an old head, but I don''t want a peecee. They still scare me :) Thinking root pool on 16GB ssd, perhap...

e1071, R1.9.0, Solaris 2.9, should I be worried?
In R 1.9.0 running under Solaris 2.9 on a SunBlade 100,
with "Sun WorkShop 6 update 2 C++ 5.3 2001/05/15" as the
C++ compiler, I just did
> install.packages("e1071")
The output includes these lines, which I have wrapped to fit nicely in mail:

Building NUT 2.2.1 under Solaris 10 (SPARC)
I'm trying to build NUT 2.2.1 on a SunBlade 2000 running Solaris 10

Installing packages from ZIP files
I have R 1.9.0 running under Solaris 2.9 ona SunBlade 100, and am
very happy with it. I heard about the stuff at www.rmetrics.org and
thought it might be worth looking at. However, what I found there is
a bunch of .zip files. The entry page suggests that there is some
way to install packages from .zip files in R, but I have searched all
the docume...

Installing rgl in R2.0.1
I'm running R2.0.1 under Solaris 2.9 on a SunBlade 100.
When I installed it, I set things up to use the Sun compilers
cc, CC, f95 with the options recommended in the installation and
administration guide.
Until today, no worries.
With all this discussion about R GUIs I thought I'd give R Commander a go.
The web page said to install a bunch o...

resetting the interpreter
Hi,
Sometimes I want to "reset" the R interpreter (as if I quit and
started it again, with everything starting from scratch). The main
reason for this is when I expreriment with calculations, and later
form them into general functions, sometimes I forget to include
variables or reset some settings which I don't notice because they are
already set. This causes problems during batch

Oddness with dfree command and Samba 2.2.3a
I am attempting to use the 'dfree command' option of smb.conf to handle
a few special cases and the like for returning disk free information.
The Samba server is acting in a PDC role, running Samba 2.2.3a on a
SunBlade 100 running Solaris 8, patched with all Recommended patches.
From a Windows 2000 box (the only thing I have handy to test with, and
will be the bulk of our client systems when this is deployed), the disk
free command is already broken natively, and my dfree script never gets
called (it, for d...

Creating and renaming mbox folders on NFS auto-installed partitions
I'm trying dovecot-0.99.9.1 in place of uw-imap which ground to a halt
on a 500MHz SunBlade 100 Solaris 8 system which acts as our Departmental
mail server. INBOXes are mbox files on the servers's local SCSI disk.
But user directories are auto mounted from other Sun NFS servers and
these may contain other mbox mailboxes in a ~/Mail directory.
There's a problem with creating (an...

[LLVMdev] Failure to compile llvm-gcc-4.2-2.7 on FreeBSD on sparc machine
llvm itself compiles fine.
gcc frontend has the error, see below.
I applied the attached patch, since the name of architecture on FreeBSD
is sparc64, not sparc. There is also one more replacement sparc ->
spaarc64 was made in gcc/Makefile in llvm-gcc.
