[libnbd PATCH] connect: Better handling of long socket names
Copy various Unix socket handling techniques from nbdkit's nbd plugin:
Silently truncating a socket name rather than issuing an error message
can confuse users. No need to do an explicit memset if the compiler
does it for us via an initializer. No need to use strncpy() which
does wasted effort on short names, when we can use memcpy() given that
we already checked length in order to detect

Retrieving datas sent by host within the Guest
Hi,
I' trying to read datas sent by my KVM host within the Guest.
Host send these datas trough a channel UNIX type , by using AF_UNIX socket stuff.
If i try to retrive the datas by using such type of thing in the Guest :
#define NAME "/dev/virtio-ports/agent"
sock = socket(AF_UNIX, SOCK_STREAM, 0);
12 if (sock < 0) {
13 perror("opening stream socket");

[Fwd: [Xen-changelog] Move xcs to unix domain sockets.]
Just forwarding this changelog from yesterday. xcs now uses Unix domain
sockets in unstable. This was a hot thread a couple months back with strong
opinions on both sides and no clear resolution on the list, so I thought
some people might like to know the developers'' resolution. This should be
good news for those seeking tighter dom0''s, particularly those who

[PATCH]: Workaround a security leak on Windows
The attached patch should solve the following problem:
ssh-agent creates a temporary directory under /tmp with '600'
permissions. The actual socket file is created in that dir using
the default umask. That's no problem in U*X systems since nobody
but the owner of the directory can read the socket file.
Unfortunately, Windows has a user privilege called "Bypass traverse

[PATCH] Use a control socket directory to restrict access
This approach is more complex than I'd like, but it works even on Solaris,
which has neither credential passing nor permissions on the socket itself.

EGD socket problem ...
Just tried out ssh in pre13, and still get the EGD problem? :(
new-relay:/usr/slocal/src/openssh-1.2pre13> ./ssh -l marc atelier
The authenticity of host 'atelier.acadiau.ca' can't be established.

Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes

rsyncing fifos and sockets on FreeBSD
Hi there,
I already asked the list about the problems with sockets on FreeBSD (see
here: http://www.mail-archive.com/rsync@lists.samba.org/msg08121.html).
I adopted Andrew Flury's patch to the recent CVS version of rsync:

[RFC][PATCH v2] Support a list of sockets on SSH_AUTH_SOCK
The idea behind this change is to add support for different "ssh-agents"
being able to run at the same time. It does not change the current
behaviour of the ssh-agent (which will set SSH_AUTH_SOCK just for
itself). Neither does it change the behaviour of SSH_AGENT_PID (which
still supports only one pid).
The new implementation will go through the list of sockets (which are
separated by a

This option, used for testing, causes the daemon to create the Unix
domain socket (from guestfs_channel), listen on it, and accept a

race condition with ControlMaster=auto
There is a race in the setup of the ControlMaster socket in auto mode, as
illustrated by the following command line:
ssh -oControlMaster=auto -oControlPath=sock localhost 'sleep 1; echo 1' &
ssh -oControlMaster=auto -oControlPath=sock localhost 'sleep 2; echo 2' &
Both of the commands will try to start up as a control client, find that
sock does not exist, and switch into

Rsync 2.5.5: FreeBSD mknod can't create FIFO's
The following patch (adapted to rsync 2.5.5 from the one posted in
Dec. 2000, http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/rsync/2000-December/003349.html)
is necessary to prevent rsync from failing on creating FIFOs or UNIX
sockets on FreeBSD. Any chance for it to be integrated in a future
release of rsync?
Thomas.

If the user calls nbd_kill_subprocess, we shouldn't kill the process
again when we close the handle (since the process has likely gone and
we might be killing a different process).

%h,%p,%u expansion for ControlPath
This allows me to set 'ControlPath ~/.ssh/sockets/%h.%p.%u' for example.
Have I missed a good reason why ssh_connect finds the default port
number for itself instead of just having it in options.port (like we do
for the the default in options.user)?

Critical EGD handling in 2.1.1p1
Hi,
when running OpenSSH with EGD as entropy source, the sshd server connects
to the EGD socket and leaves it open to re-seed on the fly.
Unfortunately the connection is not checked when re-seeding, so that
a failure or restart of EGD will lead to a "fatal()" abort of the sshd
server process.
Since a dying server process can not be accepted, I would recommend to
not have sshd call it
