..._Protection )
there's a section on "Physical Protection" that includes requiring a
single-user mode password. There's four lines that look something like
this:
echo "Require the root pw when booting into single user mode" >> /etc/inittab
echo "~~:S:wait:/sbin/sulogin" >> /etc/inittab
echo "Don't allow any nut to kill the server"
perl -npe 's/ca::ctrlaltdel:\/sbin\/shutdown/#ca::ctrlaltdel:\/sbin\/shutdown/'

It's been awhile since I've messed with the /etc/initab file, but why

As you can see in Debian if the fsck fail, you will get some advice,
sulogin and then a system reboot.

xen 3.3.0 etch sources console hangs
I installed xen 3.3.0 on a etch box from sources. I just modified the
standard kernel cause of some hardware drivers. I installed xen-tools
from backports (3.9-3~bpo40+1). To create a domU ist not the problem. I
can connect via ssh and everything works fine. But when i start a domU
with "xm create host.example.tld.cfg -c" to login to console from domU
it hangs after the message

6.5 single user mode
Hello List,
I want to boot into single user mode and run a script automatically.
I have been looking for a couple of hours and have found one solution I don't like.
How can I get the shell that is started in single user mode to run a script. My one solution
was to add a profile in /etc/profile.d/ that called the script. Is this the only way to do it?
Thanks,

...ervers (GCE instances). I recently ran `yum update` and rebooted all of them. All the servers came back fine except one. I opened a connection to the serial console of the broken server, and was greeted with this prompt:

Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked.
See sulogin(8) man page for more details.
Press Enter to continue.
I pressed Enter, and the boot process continued successfully! Just to test, I restarted the server again, and the same thing happened: I had to manually log in to the console and press Enter before it would complete the boot process. N...

solaris 10 SMF setup?
Hello
I'm in the process of putting SMB onto a dual Opteron x64
box running Solaris 10, with the SFW samba as supplied by
Sun.
I haven't found any hooks for this for the new SMF/SVC startup
system, so I'm doing so now, but before I go any further,
am I duplicating any efforts? Is anyone else doing
this and has done it?
At present I'm only starting smbd and nmbd (I never really

Opensuse 10.3 does not charge dom0
I decided to upgrade from openSuse 10.2 to openSuse 10.3. I installed xen things, but when I boot using xen option the system is blocked. It appears the green window, with little suse logo in the middle, and mouse cursor, but the system crashes.
My computer is a Pentium 4 1,5 GHz, 512 MB of RAM.
I attached "diff boot.msg boot.omsg" (as diff opensuse-normal-kernel opensuse-xen-kernel)

prevent users from fiddling with network?
Dear Experts,
"this is system from the hell!"
Than was my first reaction when I realized that logged in with GUI (X11)
user can turn off (and on) network interfaces. Without being in sudoers
file. Wow, this is scary to see on workstations I manage centrally. Even
though I did consider local user to be able to execute the command

Unable to create more than 1 VM
Hi,
I have already set up a VM that can access the network using the NAT mode.
The problem I have is that I''d like to create another VM that also has
access to the network. The problem I get is that when a VM is started,
the other one will refuse to start. Actually it starts, but when I
want to "xm console" into it I get the following error message:
