Correct remedy for winbindd sulking on 3.0.30?
Greetings,
I have recently upgraded from 3.0.28a to 3.0.30 on a couple of FreeBSD 7.0
servers: one in a Windows 2000 Active Directory environment, and the other
in a Windows 2003 Active Directory environment, as member servers.
Everything works for a while and then winbindd goes into sulking mode.
Re-starting fixes everythng for a little while.
I'm guessing I've hit the winbindd bug described here:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2008-June/141041.html
What is the recommended resolution?
1. Apply the patch included in the post referenced above?
2. Apply a different pat...

2038 year Problem
...that the consultants who did it got paid some obscene amounts of money.
As I recall, they found very little except for one major system that we
knew would need updating anyway. And I presume that the contractor who
came in to fix the major system was rather well paid too.
But no money for me. <sulk> Wrong job, wrong time, wrong place, I guess.
Perhaps I should be pleased the actual 99/00 changeover went so smoothly
afterall.

Aptitude vs. apt
Hi all,
I need to write an aptitude provider for Debian. How should it differ
from apt? Can I just s/apt/aptitude/g, or do I need to do something
else? Any other weird behaviours I should look for or whatever?
I''ll make it a subclass of apt (and since Deb seems to specify aptitude
as the default now, maybe apt should subclass aptitude), so any dpkg
answerfile work should work on

It only went smoothly because there were people like me fixing the issues ;-)

but WHERE ????!!!!!, How the heck can people listen to what I'm sending to
Icecast? what is the URL that people need to visit to listen to our radio

I've kicked the cat, Sulked for hours on end and even begged Icecast for

like to make things as difficult as possible.
Before I finally give up and throw the whole thing out of the wi...

I beg to differ, John. Lexmark drivers and support
files contain pleasantly arranged and easy to use
parametrization of a print job. The Adobe substitute
offers exactly the same functionality in a drab java
applet. My users went on a 1 week sulk, when I
installed Adobe general driver because of problems in
rpcclient 2.2.8a. They only lightened up after I
debugged the code with Kurt's help.

control panels, like or dislike?
When I first started using webservers I leased shared hosting. Then I
moved to vps. Then to dedicated.
In all that I was with various control panels.
In almost all cases bugs in those control panels would cause all sorts
of issues.
(ensim, cpanel, plesk).
The load on the server seemed greatly increased (especially with ensim).
When I built my first server 4 years ago I decided to heck with

I used to run an internet radio station that was listed on TuneIn! Turned
it all off when I took a job with a large internet streaming music
service.

Marginal write performance & pauses in outgoing transfers - Possible bug
Hello everybody,
I have a FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE server running Samba 2.2.8a and a workstation
running Windows 2000 SP4. Whereas FTP transfers between these boxes average
700 KB/s (10 mbps LAN) in both directions, Samba transfers are exhibiting
this odd behavior:
Windows 2000 --> Samba = 700 KB/s (perfect)
Samba --> Windows 2000 = 100 KB/s (terrible, inconsistent, with LONG pauses)
Trust me,
