I'm actually trying to setup an AD authentication on linux workstations.
- I've setup an windows AD 2003 server, which work fine.
- I've setup linux redhat 4 enterprise server (used as a workstation for the moment)
- On the redhat, I already have setup smb.conf, krb5.conf, nsswitch.conf, pam.d/login, pam.d/system_auth. I have pasted all these files below.

Strange problem - Samba 3.0.23 on Solaris 9 Sparc
Hi, we have deployed successfully Linux clients to an Active Directory domain
with Samba 3.0.23. We had no problem with the ads authentication, winbind,
kerberos, and id resolutions.
Late we did the same on a test Solaris 9 x86 server, with a successful result
again.
Our problem begins with a production Solaris 9 Sparc server, everything runs
succesful, but there is just one user on the

OpenSSH public key problem with Solaris 10
Hi ya'll-
I've got this odd openssh problem with Solaris 10 I was hoping someone
could shed some light on. Not sure if it is a bug... Basically I'm
trying to use pubkeys as an auth method, but am having issues. I can
log in using passwords no problem, but as soon as it notices a matching
public key it closes the connection. I ran the sshd server (on Solaris
10 box) in debug

Solaris Winbind LDAP pam_mkhomedir.so
Dear list,
How do I test whether I have access to my winbind LDAP backend from my
Solaris 9 machine? My LDAP database is held on a Redhat 9.0 machine also
running Samba 3.0.0.
I know winbind works because getent and wbinfo show up my NT users and
groups.
I would also like to have people log into my Solaris 9 machine with their NT
usernames, I have this working on Redhat already but Solaris is

Samba and private shares
I'm running samba 2.5 on a FreeBSD box using winbind to do authentication
with my PDC/BDC. I'm able to configure shares that everyone on the NT
network can access but when I configure private shares (only 1 or 2 users
have access to) the users get prompted for a username and password and are
not allowed access. What am I doing wrong? Below I have included a copy of
my smb.conf and pam.conf

Trouble authenticating to Samba shares with Win 2k3 ADS
I may have a deficiency in understanding the procedure for ADS
authentication with samba, but most of the server setup works so far. I
have bound a Red Hat Enterprise 5 server to our windows domain, it shows
up in DNS and ADS, I can ping it, but I can't get samba shares to be
accessible to users, or even get the smbclient to return shares
properly.
wbinfo -g returns the domain groups

How to support idmap_rid on Fedora Core 3?
Hello,
Please forgive me if this has been discussed, I did not find any
references when I searched.
I'm trying to replace a W2K server with a samba member server in a
single ADS domain.
It seems that the Fedora rpms do not support idmap_rid so I am trying to
compile from the Fedora SRPM. After following the docs for building and
configuring idmap_rid I get no ADS users from `getent

ssh login through AD solution
Thanks to Anthony Ciarochi at Centeris for this solution.
I have a Centos (Red Hat-based) server that is now accessible to AD users
AND local users via ssh. I can control which AD groups can login using the
syntax below. Red Hat-based distros use "pam_stack" in pam.d which is quite
different than Debian's "include" based pam.d,
cat /etc/pam.d/sshd

now it looks like:

fine and I am able to use it for authentication as needed. When I try to

No. See my previous message. I think it's the result of copying
portions of SuSE configurations.

FreeBSD ssh AD authentication
After reading the related chapter in the Samba-3 HOWTO document
I've tried to put the AD authentication in place in our network
on two systems and I got stuck in exactly the same place.
Here are the software configs I was using :

sshd version OpenSSH_3.5p1 FreeBSD-20030924
Samba Version 3.0.10

offline logon in 3.4.7-58
Having issues adapting our 3.4 configuration that worked very well using idmap rid in 3.3.
It seems like winbind does not cache the credentials despite all of the settings being present. I can set winbind offline via smbcontrol and have it work, but if I reboot the machine (important for my laptops) off the network winbind complains that it can't find the logon server.
