Question about replacing the web interface with an audio stream
I have had a bunch of issues getting reverse proxy running with apache
properly, the main issue is with YP listings and having icecast list the
revproxy mount at port 80 rather than the icecast one at port 8000.
Unfortunately, I /need/ some sort of http server on port 80 - and I know
apache the best.
That being said, if you know the mounts you want to reverse proxy, its
not an arduous exercise

Is this just anti-Ogg FUD?
...to his claims? Thoughts?
-- start of email --
Ogg has to this day, fundemental problems with low frequency encoding.
Sometimes refered to as "pre-echo aliasing" ... it is something that is a
problem for music (primarly electronic which is why I don't use it) with
low end bass and subsonics. If you have the ability to test this on a
proper sound system, you will hear it dead out. Most people don't realise
that you need a certain amount of distance from the generation source to
your ear for the bass wave to resonate correctly. This is why sometimes
when you are at a rave and yo...

Question about replacing the web interface with an audio stream
Okay, but you’d have to be able/willing to employ a dedicated IP to that, plus run Icecast as root.
What are the negative technical implications of running icecast on port 8000 (suitable for most users) and then running a reverse proxy to accommodate public wifi with port restrictions?

Indexed FLAC file?
Hi all,
I have a very large music collection that I keep on a portable hard
drive (to plug in to car USB, carry with when I'm at my office, etc).
All but a few dozen files are part of an album, and not a single audio
file. This translates to an insane amount of files stored on my hard
drive. I am very strict about how I label and file my media (I loathe
unlabeled audio tracks), but

Indexed FLAC file?
.m3u and .pls playlist files are pretty common and most major media
players support them, maybe even embedded ones like the one in your
car. David's right, the best thing is to make a database of your stuff
(iTunes was good, the last time I had a mac), but then that won't work
in your car or anything.
For a long time I've wanted to make a web-based music database that
does the tables

oggenc adds severe distortion
Hi all,
I routinesly rips my CDs to WAV and then convert to ogg vorbis format
for use in my car and portable player. I don't usually notice anything
amiss, but on the last track of Mike Oldfield's "Music of the Spheres"
album ("Musica Universalis", at the very end crescendo), the converted
.ogg file exhibits terrible distortion (sounds like digital clipping).
