* You note that Xiph.Org Foundation is a
non-profit organization presumably to elevate its
agenda to some worldly wonderful purpose ... as
if to say "our work is so profoundly important to
humanity, that we forego profit". Non-profit is a
tax term meant to gain subsidy from governments
in the form of tax exemption. And we taxpayers
pay for that subsidy. No, Speex is not a
Communist "plot", as you sardonically put it. It
is simply socialistically funded. An organization

I think you will find that Xiph has an absolutley tiny
income, which is mostly spent on servers and bandwidth.
Xiph does not as far as I know have a single full time
paid employee. As such, Xiph costs...

A bug report?
Folks,
I have a strange situation, which I may have isolated as a bug
report. Or, it could just be that there's something about R that I
don't know. :-) I have attached the data file and the program file but
don't know whether these attachments will make it into the list. Here
is my bugreport.R program --

Hello Jean:
Big mistake!!
One of the three things that a supplier should never discuss is
politics ... that's business 101.
Speex may be a very good product, but we will never use it because of
the politics that you espouse ... some of us out here believe

running R-code outside of R
R 2.7.0, WinXP

I have written some code in R that I would like to share with others who
are not R-users. Is there a way to compile the code so it will run
outside of R?
The best thing would be a functionality to compile the code into a ".exe"
file that does not require the user to have R installed or to know how to
use R. The persons I would like to make the program available

Dear Yihui,
Thanks a lot for your help!
Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce this. I've tried creating

with valid UTF-8 and valid non-UTF-8 text, but R seems to be able to
list them all in my case.
I'm running a US English evaluation ISO image of a slightly newer build
of Windows 10, and I also compiled R-4.3.1 from

Hardphone SIP phone costs
I'm trying to understand something that just doesn't seem to compute.
How can companies like Cisco justify selling their hard phones for as
much as they do? I know there is a matter of recouping R&D costs but
when you look at the iPhone with all its amazing features for less than
$500.00 it just doesn't make sense. Am I the only one that thinks this?
