Help replacing dual identity disk in ZFS raidz and SVM mirror
...2:00:47 vfcustgfs02b scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Sense Key: Media Error Dec 3 12:00:47 vfcustgfs02b scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] ASC: 0x15 (mechanical positioning error), ASCQ: 0x1, FRU: 0x0 When we run a metastat we see that 2 of the 3 SVM mirrors is reporting that the failing disks submirror needs maintenance. Oddly enough, the third SVM mirror reports no issues making me think there is a media error on the disk that only happens to affect 2 of the 3 disks slices respectively Also "zpool status" reports read issues on the failing disk config: NAME STATE...

Accidentally added disk instead of attaching
Hi, I wanted to add a disk to the tank pool to create a mirror. I accidentally used zpool add ? instead of zpool attach ? and now the disk is added. Is there a way to remove the disk without loosing data? Or maybe change it to mirror? Thanks, Martijn -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

zfs mirroring question
I create two zfs''s on one pool of four disks with two mirrors, such as... / zpool create tank mirror disk1 disk2 mirror disk3 disk4 zfs create tank/fs1 zfs create tank/fs2/ Are fs1 and fs2 striped across all four disks? If two disks fail that represent a 2-way mirror, do I lose data? Brian.

Poor man''s backup by attaching/detaching mirror drives on a _striped_ pool?
Hi, one quick&dirty way of backing up a pool that is a mirror of two devices is to zpool attach a third one, wait for the resilvering to finish, then zpool detach it again. The third device then can be used as a poor man''s simple backup. Has anybody tried it yet with a striped mirror? What if the pool is composed out of two mirrors? Can I attach devices to both mirrors, let them

checksum errors after online''ing device
Dear all As we wanted to patch one of our iSCSI Solaris servers we had to offline the ZFS submirrors on the clients connected to that server. The devices connected to the second server stayed online so the pools on the clients were still available but in degraded mode. When the server came back up we onlined the devices on the clients an the resilver completed pretty quickly as the filesystem...

RAID10
Hi All, I am looking at ZFS and I get that they call it RAIDZ which is similar to RAID 5, but what about RAID 10? Isn''t a RAID 10 setup better for data protection? So if I have 8 x 1.5tb drives, wouldn''t I: - mirror drive 1 and 5 - mirror drive 2 and 6 - mirror drive 3 and 7 - mirror drive 4 and 8 Then stripe 1,2,3,4 Then stripe 5,6,7,8 How does one do this with ZFS?

OpenSolaris ZFS NAS Setup
If it''s of interest, I''ve written up some articles on my experiences of building a ZFS NAS box which you can read here: http://breden.org.uk/2008/03/02/a-home-fileserver-using-zfs/ I used CIFS to share the filesystems, but it will be a simple matter to use NFS instead: issue the command ''zfs set sharenfs=on pool/filesystem'' instead of ''zfs set

ZFS for Linux (NO LISCENCE talk, please)
Hello. I''m a nobody. I use Linux. I have a hard-drive. I want the best / sexiest / what ever fs for my hard-drive, as it isn''t one of those flashy flash drives, which I presume don''t need an fs (???). I was THRILLED that the ZFS for Linux thread started. And, I was equally horrified (and sufficiently annoyed that I am starting this new thread) when it degraded in to
