distance_of_time_in_words_to_now
Hi There, As I have learned the hard way, let me discuss my question, idea or feature here before doing actual work on it... distance_of_time_in_words_to_now() seems to be unable to tell if this distance is in the future or in the past. I''d really like to see ''in 5 days'' or ''5 days ago'' depending on, well, if it was 5 days ago or will be in 5

chi-square test
Hi R-users, I would like to find the goodness of fit using Chi-suare test for my data below: xobs=observed data, xtwe=predicted data using tweedie, xgam=predicted data using gamma > xobs <- c(223,46,12,5,7,17) > xtwe <- c(217.33,39,14,18.33,6.67,14.67) > xgam <- c(224.67,37.33,12.33,15.33,5.33,15) > chisq.test(xobs, xtwe = xtwe, rescale.p = TRU...

test for the variance of a normal population
Hi, Does anyone know an instruction to perform a test (or to construct a confidence interval) for the variance of a normal population (distribution). The test statistic is (n-1)*S´^2/sigma^2 and has chi square (n-1) distribution. Thank you, Alexandra [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Cases as Variables in Principal Component Analysis?
...s proper, which he specializes in. Is there anyone who can comment on this matter. Venables & Ripley says something to the effect that either method will do, but the authors do not seem to give a specific example. In my trade(chemistry), the data is commonly analyzed by the PLS(Partial Least Suare) method, which seems to give more or less the same result. Only the contribution of the PC's seems to be different. I would appreciate any help. Thank you. -- Yukihiro Ishii <yukiasais at ybb.ne.jp>

New Gem: validation_hints
Hi, I hope this is the correct way to announce a new gem: validation_hints https://github.com/acesuares/validation_hints https://rubygems.org/gems/validation_hints It''s purpose is to get a list of ''hints'' derived from validation on a model or attribute. These hints then could be used in the user interface, for instance for displaying a tooltip or other context-sensitive...
