failsafe against "stupid" / careless users
I'm admin on a samba PDC with 150 users, and as normal users they are quit "stupid". This means that they ofte deletes something that shouldnt have been deleted. And I find it anoying to restore their files from tapebackup. So would it be possible to get samba to "move" files instead of deleting them? This way I could allocate a disk to store deleted files for a periode of

Asterisk dual contexts stupidity
So I have my extensions.conf (http://www.infiltrated.net/exten.stupidity.conf) shortened in case someone wants to look. Has someone encountered the following? I've racked my brain on this for too long... I have two contexts, day and night... Caller (Daytime) --> Dials an extension --> Caller hears extension ring on receiver --> Call goes through Caller (Night) --> Dials an

imaps tls/ssl and stupid clients
We have been using dovecot now as replacement for qpopper for over 2 weeks and it's working nicely. I have now tried to enable ssl/tls for myself and other inhouse users which also works fine. But the problem is that I use an uncertified certificate. Which is not a problem for kmail, as it just pops up a box asking whether I want to accept the certificate or not. But apparently, some

Stupid Newbie: can't connect localhost:901 - help
I've installed the rpm's and everything seems to be set up fine. I've been through many documents (even the one on redhat that says i must change localhost to 127.0.0.1 in one of the config files (/etc/xinetd.d/swat). When i direct mozilla to http://localhost:901 I get, "The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:901 I think maybe that something is not

stupid regexp question
Hello, I have a stupid regexp question. I have a large data frame of strings. I would like to convert all occurences of : "W.m^{-2}" to "W/m2" I make the following test : gsub(glob2rx("W.m^{-2}"), "W/m2", "W.m^{-2}") but it does not seem to work. I don't know how to do it otherwise as I could never learn how to deal with the special

stupid questions ..
just three "stupid" questions I need to ask .. 1. what's the sequence to press on a SIP phone to transfer a call to another extension. 2. what's the same thing if you want to hold an incoming call, speak to the other extension, then pass the call? 3. what's the extensions.conf syntax to dial two SIP extensions at once? many thanks Dave

[stupid headers]
I setup icecast on my O-bsd server recently and whenever I try to connect with a shoutcast DSP (winamp/m$) I get the error on my server: "Kicking unknown 1 [cust8950.lava.net] [Stupid headers], connected for 0 seconds" I have had it working on freebsd, and even used my working confif file. the only difference is when there is no password supplied I get a "no encoder" error

[OT] stupid firmware question...
I know this is a really stupid question, but I just have to ask... Where would I start if I wanted to try and develop my own firmware for a particular phone. Namely, I want to try and 're-write' the SIP firmware for Cisco 7940's. Any ideas? -Chris PS: [* put on flame suit *] why won't any of the phone manufacturer's just open-source the firmware for their phones? [*

comment on another command line option
I would like ssh to have the command line option of supplying the passphrase. This would make it possible to do attendant free scp transfers from PHP, for example. As it is, it is impossible to use a web script to initiate an scp xfer if an encrypted private key is used. I realize that stupid people could make shell scripts or web scripts then with the pass phrase in them, but those same stupid

Stupid question about IE and WINE
Hi All, Lamentably, I now have a legitimate need to run Internet Explorer on one of my nice Linux boxes. (It has to do with web design, the fact that many people still use IE, and the need to have a site that work with many browsers and not just the ones that adhere to the official standards.) Up to this point I've managed to happily run many computers for years without ever dealing with

stupid headers
With Winamp, you need to set the port to one number below the server port. ie: if the server is on 8000, set Winamp to 7999. When used with a Shoutcast server, Winamp uses the base port for metadata, & port+1 for the audio stream & headers. You also need to have the Icecast server listen on both ports (or run a second 'dummy' server on port-1) so that Winamp will at least *think*

Stupid redhat problem
I've got a stupid startup problem with samba under RedHat 5.0. Whenever I restart the system (I moved the server yesterday, so it got a reboot) samba doesn't startup. Looking at the /etc/rc.d/rc3.d directory shows there there is no link from there to /etc/init.d/smb. I put such a link in at some point in the past (after the LAST reboot, as I remember), and it has now vanished. This is
