on-disconnect -> streamtranscoderv3 (linux server)
...oder which autimatically transcodes a certein mountpoit (ogg-high-quality) to low, mid and high mp3 stream on-connect. but I'm stuck with two problems: 1. how to determine which stramtranscoderv3 process is reencoding this particular stream? because doing <on-disconnect> just # killall streamTranscoderv3 is not useful, when other streams are also reencoded on this server. Maybe its totally easy, but I see no posibility so far, any hints? 2. streamtranscoder doesn't want to re-encode in ogg quality. it just tries to connect but reconnects regularly. how to determine whats going wrong? see the...

ices0.4: icecast mp3 stream for source ?
Hello together, we would like to use IceCast 2.3.1 as a mp3 streamer source for reencoding several sources of ices 0.4. It is working perfectly already by using an mp3 playlist with local stored mp3s. But our plan is to upload an 160 kbps stream and want ices 0.4 to reencode to 96, 56 and 32 kbps. Uploading 1 getting 4 streams. We are streaming with SAM Broadcaster 2. Icecast runs on SuSE 9.3

elegant way of re-encoding?
Hi, Now that I've been able to look at streamtranscoder 3.0, I see there's absolutely no documentation whatsoever. I've not compiled it, but I note that previously when you ran it first time, it would create a sample config file for you to edit. Maybe it still does this. Oddsock's flash demo may shed more light on this, but I can't use it so don't know. Geoff. --

...ploading 1 getting 4 streams. I assume you want to do this in real time (i.e. you want 4 streams at the same time as your SAM broadcast is done). You might be able to get Ices to do this, but it'd probably be a lot easier to use Oddsock's stream transcoder (http://www.oddsock.org/tools/streamTranscoderV3) which is designed for this sort of thing. Stream transcoder V3 seems to have no documentation. If you missed my quick guide on how to get started with it that I posted yesterday, basically you do the following after installing it. 1. Run streamtranscoderv3 2. Edit the generated config file...

What's best practice for serving multiple formats from a remote icecast server?
We are running an icecast2 server in conjunction with our LPFM radio station and need a little advice. We have been serving a single 128k ogg stream from a remote server and would like to make additional formats available (e.g. mp3, lower bandwidth, etc.) I would think this has been done a few thousand times and there would be a "best practice" but I can't find it. Our basic

Higher quality narrowband streaming options
...one can hardly blame them. So I thought I'd start a thread on low bitrate streaming in order to find out what people are using and how. There seem to be two issues. The first is which format to use and the second is how to go about transcoding into said format. Right now we're using StreamTranscoderv3 to do our transcoding. It can turn around our broadband stream as a narrowband stream without any intervention. I've successfully used it to turn around streams as MP3 and Ogg Vorbis. It's also meant to support AAC and AACPlus, but I've not managed to figure out how to enable thi...

OGG stream drops after every couple/few tracks
Hi all, First question on this list - I am running into issues with my embedded OGG stream players (so far I've used ffmp3 and just today started trying jlgui), and honestly I'm not sure what's up. I'm hoping someone would be kind enough to help me figure it out. Basically, I have a setup that pulls a number of OGG files from MPD (all the same bitrate/etc AFAIK) In ffmp3, when

Best way downsample stream from 128 to 56 on the server?
Hi! We want to over our stream in better quality (128 or 256) - but we still have listeners using ISDN ... what's the best way to create a 56'er stream from the 128er send to the server? The downsampling has to run on the debian streaming server. Greetings from Germany Philipp

seems to be AACPlus. And it's not surprising given how good it sounds. I'm not so sure about device support though, and encoding it is a bit of an issue (see above). There is libaacplus, but streamTranscoderv3 doesn't *appear* to support it. I think Liquid Soap might though. There's also something called AACPlusEnc but I can't seem to get to its home page. While we're considering non-free options, Windows Media Audio would seem to be out due to the desire to encode under Linux, and...
