new package released: stratigraph v. 0.6b
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The first public (beta) release of the package stratigraph is now
available on CRAN:
http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/stratigraph/index.html
It includes tools for plotting pollen diagrams, an implementation of an
evolutionary algorithm for drawing stratigraphic lines of correlation, and
several other functions for the analysis and plotting of ge...

Rotating Titles
Hi All,
I am looking for help in rotating species titles produced using the
strat.plot( ) function in the rioja package. This function produces a
stratigraphic plot of paleoenvironmental data. Currently the titles of each
species are plotted vertically while they are typically plotted at a 45
degree angle in other programs. Does anyone have any idea of how to rotates
these titles?
Below is an example plot (taken from the rioja help file) made the
fun...

text/mtext axis labels on graphs
Hello everyone
I have problem with axis labels on graphs, I have my code as below:
plot(0,0,xlim=c(1,ncol(PA)),ylim=c(1,nrow(PA)),main="Stratigraphic
Range",xlab="Time
Bins",ylab="Taxa",cex.axis=1.5,cex.lab=2,cex.main=2.5,mgp=c(5,1.5,0),xaxt="n")
text(1:(length(strat_name)), y= 0, adj=1,
srt=45,labels=strat_name,xpd=TRUE, cex=1) #adds text to x axis giving
the strat names
abline(v=(1:ncol(PA))+.5,co...

histogram-like barplot? (or reverse?)
...eriods (1 year intervals, 2 year intervals,
etc.) and then plot several of the histograms/barplots in a
series of figures to show how differing resolution changes
the pattern.
I have calculated the counts manually, but I can't just pipe
the raw data into hist due to its weirdness (species
stratigraphic ranges).
Basically I want a scatterplot to plot x,y data points,
except with vertical bars instead of points.
I've tried hacking hist() but so far without luck.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Custom axis function in lattice:::xyplot
Dear List,
I have been writing a Lattice function to draw what we call
stratigraphic diagrams, these are diagrams with a panel for each species
showing a time series of abundance, but drawn vertically to represent
time passing from bottom of plot towards to top.
I am most of the way there with this now, but I want to do away with the
strip on each panel and instead draw a custom...

StructTS and arima and missing values
Dear List,
I am thinking about ways in which I might analyse some stratigraphic
data. The nature of the data series I have generates a number of issues:
1) The data I have in mind come from a sediment core sequence taken from
the bottom of a lake. The sequence is sliced into a priori defined
slices, in this case 0.2cm per slice. in this way a sequence of 0.2cm
slices is...

changing coordinates?
I just detected R and have, after browsing the manual, one question:
I look for quite a lot of time for graphical software which allows to
plot data from a table or external file _with the axes of the coordinate
system changed_, i.e. the x-axis should run from top left to bottom
left, and the y-axis from top-left to top-right. It is of no use to
interchange the rows in the table, the
