zfs boot on Sparc?
I am afraid a search does not get much on this subject, hence this post.
Is there a plan for a Nevada build to include zfs root/boot on Sparc architecture?
When?

Multiple-level user shares
Can anyone tell me how I can do a multiple level user share? What I'm
having trouble configuring is a share that allows all users to use the first
directory of the share, and then in subdirectories of the first directory
only allow specified users access. I can't find anything similar in any
docs on the internet nor in the O'Reilly Using Samba book.
Thanks.

Large Roaming profiles
Hi,
I have large size Roaming profiles in Win2k and Samba.
Samba 2.2.2 is acting as a PDC.
Does Win2k load all the files from scratch from the samba server
everytime a user log in?
Or does Win2k or Samba provides some sort of diff mecanism, so
that only modified files are loaded from the Samba server(to speed think
up)?
Thanks

smbpasswd file NFS sharable?
If I want to make two servers use the same encrypted passwords can I
share the smbpasswd file via NFS? Will updates/locking work correctly?
Is there an alternative? Can LDAP/PAM use encrypted passwords?

Linux and SMB using single passwd
Hi All,
I would like to set up a samba server but using the same user / pass for unix
logins and smb logins.
This works fine if I use non-encrypted passwords but I have to apply the
registry patch to set my win98 clients to use non-encrypted passwords.
Could I use pam_smb to authenticate the Linux box against its own smb server
then use encrypted smb passwords?
I understand that if the smb

Question on application/database design for a application port to rails
Hi all
I am hoping that the experience and knowledge of this ''list'' will be
able to help me out with some design decisions I have to make while
porting a desktop app to rails.
Here is the scoop:
I am in the design process of porting a fairly large client/server app
to rails. Average data set is about 200 MB per database/server.
Altogether there are about 100 tables and about

Unix Group Question with repect to Samba
I have a question with regards to using Unix groups with samba. This might
be easier to explain with an example.
Lets say I have two users
UserID: GID
UserA:Group1
UserB:Group2
etc.....
I now have an entry in /etc/group that looks like
groupdev::UserA, UserB
If I have a directory with group ownership set to "groupdev" and group mode
"rws"
UserA & UserB cannot create a

FreeBSD Quarterly Status Report, January-March 2013
...The former also adds a run dependency on
pkg-config, which is not required. A first pass was done to get rid of
this in the Glib update to 2.34. In cooperation with the X11 Team, the
usage of USE_GNOME=pkgconfig in X components will be removed. After the
fallout from this is handled and stranglers are converted, the
USE_GNOME option will be removed.
In addition USE_GNOME=gnomehack is deprecated and should not be used.
Please replace it with USES=pathfix.
The GNOME development repository has switched from CVS to SVN. CVS will
not get any more updates. Uses can get a new vers...
