I know that evaluating the quality of a perceptual encoder with any technical equipment is nearly impossible and it would be better to let the ear do this. ...Vorbis uses codebooks, for example to do vectorquantization and huffman-encoding. My question is - are all these codebook dynamicly generated ("trained") or are there also static codebooks used ? I found this sentence in the Ogg format specs: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/doc/vorbis-spec-res.html "A residue vector may represent spectral lines, spectral magnitude, spectral phase or hybrids as mixed by channel coupling." I have been looking at Vorbis support material for the past few days and have found no helpful reference to encoding Vorbis files. I found a diagram ( http://stoffke.port5.com/en_block/block_en.html ) and a document titled "Vorbis illuminated" but they disagree on the flow of the encoder. Is the diagram accurate or should I believe the (difficult to read) vorbis illuminated? My apologies if there is information right under my nose on the Vorbis...
