Hi folks, Thanks to the community feedback on the 1st version, I''ve come up with a much improved version of the acts_as_taggable mixin. ThereĀ“s some piece of the action here: http://dema.ruby.com.br/articles/2005/09/03/tagging-on-steroids-with-rails Cheers Dema -- http://dema.ruby.com.br - Rails from a .NET perspective

Robust or Sandwich estimates in lmer2
...ot;robust=FALSE". Both models giving me the same estimates. So my question is, does the robust option works in lmer2 to get the robust estimates of the standard error? If anybody could offer me a suggestion I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. help: calculations for causespecific hazard ratios in a competing risks analysis with timedependent covariates
Dear R users: Analysis of the impact of a time-dependent covariate (GVHD or use of steroid after bone marrow transplantation) on two competing endpoints (invasive fungal infection and death) is frequently encountered in the setting of BMT data. Coxph package can be used as the following: for the analysis of GVHD: > gvhd -> coxph(Surv(start, stop, status = =1) ~ GVHD, data=bmt.da...

Shorewall on Steroids
Today, the Mandrake Store here in the US have made available for sale their "Multi Network Firewall" (MNF). MNF is built around Shorewall and has a lot of nice features including a cool GUI. MNF has been under development for almost a year and is Mandrake''s next-generation firewall product. For those of you who are using Shorewall in a commercial environment and who are

How to get p-values, seperate vectors of regression coefficients and their s.e. from the "yags" output?
...so, how can I get the standard errors of these reg. coefficients as a seperate vector? Notice, as it is highlighted below, beta1=coef(wee) giving me "NULL" and also summary(wee) is not giving me nothing! The following is the output from the yags analysis: > yf=formula(Ddimer~newrace+steroid+treatment+SOFA+PSI) > wee=yags(yf, id=Subject, data=final, cor.met=as.double(rep(0:6, 872)), family=gaussian, corstruct="exchangeable", control=yags.control(), weights=w, betainit=NULL, alphainit=.1, subset=NULL) > wee YAGS (yet another GEE solver) $Date: 2004/10/22 18:49:23 $ Call:...

Steroids for Rsync!
I've been researching the state of 'file alteration monitoring' technology on Linux. Famd uses dnotify to inefficently monitor a handful of directories. The replacement for dnotify is being worked on in the kenel and it's called inotify. If I understand it correctly and they get it finished, it would be an awesome addition to rsync. With it, you could run rsync to update a

Tagging recommendation - acts_as_taggable_on_steroids best?
hey all What''s the most popular tagging plugin/gem these days? Is it acts_as_taggable_on_steroids? Or is something else better? I''d like to basically replicate flickr''s tagging as much as possible, eg allowing multi-word tags to be denoted by quotes or seperated by commas. thanks max -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

AWS OpsWorks announcement using Chef
I wonder if PuppetLabs will work with Amazon to try to add Puppet as an option to OpsWorks as well ? I don''t think people using Puppet with AWS in a stable fashion would try to move to OpsWorks and migrate everything to Chef, but new customers/startups would think twice in choosing Puppet if the service offered in AWS OpsWorks is based on Chef. I haven''t tried OpsWorks yet,

acts_as_taggable -- which one?
...the lists and Google search. I like that the DHH plugin uses polymorphic associations because there will be lots of different taggable items in my application; however, adding and removing tags is a bolt-on, not designed-in feature. The Dema mixin (dema.ruby.com.br/articles/2005/09/03/tagging-on-steroids-with-rails) appears to do more right out of the chutes but is HABTM so it may not be as flexible as DHH''s. Does anyone have thoughts on which has been most productive for you? How about the add/remove tag features? Thanks -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/acts_as_t...

Stories with many tags, tags with many stories, has_and_belongs_to_many howto?
Hi, I began experimenting with habtm relationships, and so I created a stories table, a tags table, and a stories_tags table referencing the former 2. When I create a "story", I want to add several tags to it. Then, the model should create those tags and link them to the respective stories, and for the tags that already exists, just link them to the story. I tried something like
