Can a macOS (Posix) client see symlinks on FreeBSD server as symlinks on client?
...they must be somewhere.? I have checked a box in the admin UI which I think invokes "vfs_fruit", but I don't know how to be sure. "sudo smbstatus" doesn't seem to say. The client runs a macOS Sonoma 14.7.2 OS, and Apples "smbfs" variant of Samba. `smbutil statshares -m /Volumes/MyShare` prints various attributes including, "SMB_VERSION SMB_3.1.1". My understanding is that this is plenty modern enough to support Posix well. As I read the Samba website, especially the wiki, I don't find a page that says, "This is the behaviour which Samba...

Is this supposed to be supported in Samba 4.7.1? Server side copies work fine using a Windows client. From mac OS 10.13.2, there's a full transfer of a file being copied. $ smbutil statshares -a ================================================================================================== SHARE ATTRIBUTE TYPE VALUE ================================================================================================== test-share...

Problem with Samba 4.5.8 as a macOS server
...for this share is visibly faster (lots of files there). So that’s perfect :-) The problem is the create/directory mask: it is totally ignored! Every file/folder I create via smb has no group write access, although the mask should give it this. Even the force modes are ignored. On the Mac: smbutil statshares -a Transfer SERVER_NAME XXXXXX USER_ID 502 SMB_NEGOTIATE SMBV_NEG_SMB1_ENABLED SMB_NEGOTIATE...
