Reference to use of MLR in industry and biology
I apologize in advance for posting a question not related to R.
I need references to papers that use multiple linear regression in an industrial application and also in a biological experiment.
This is aimed to biologists/chemists (non-statisticans) so if anyone has written a brilliant paper where the use of multiple regression is important and also understandable to people with little knowledge of statistics and you like to be cited, please email me the reference off the list.
To show the wide range of application I would like to have an e...

non-parametric and semi-parametric methods for complex survey and
longitudinal data? Is there a book that someone recommend that covers
these
topics with R (or Stata) examples? My web-searches have not resulted in
much except that these seem to be actively researched topics by some
statisticans working on theory --- no packages mentions of software were
found in the few (I recall only one) empirical examples found.

package lmodel2: p-value RMA fitting?
Hi *,
is there a way to obtain some kind of p-value for a model fitted with RMA
using the lmodel2 package?
I know that p-values are discussed and criticized a lot and as you can image
from my question I'm not
very much of a statistican (only writing my bachelor thesis).
As fare as I understood the confidence interval statistic correctly, a
coefficient is regarded as statistically
significant if the corresponding CI does not include 0 (null hypothesis).
But can I obtain some kind of a
p-value to say that it is highly significant...

How to write efficient R code

article (http://www.sciviews.org/other/benchmark.htm) I have been more
interested in making the R code itself more efficient. I would like to find
more info about this. I have tried to mail the contact person for the
benchmark, but I have so recieved no reply.
I am not an R programmer (or statistican) so I do not know R well. I am
looking for some advice about writing fast R code. What about the different
data types for example? Is there some good place to start to look for more
info about this?
Thanks for any pointers

Frequency Distribution
Hi,
Could someone please suggest where I might find some
instructions / tutorials / FAQs that describe how to
create a frequency distribution and cumulative
frequency distribution in R using different class
withs.
I have about a 2-million observations (distances
between points ranging from sub-millimetre to about
400km, and I want to get a feel for how they are
distributed).
I'd like the

Read function that detects format automatically
...olons
and semicolons, etc. More generally, one could use the file extension or if
available the unix 'file' command to evaluate the filetype if it is non
ascii.
I think it should not be very complicated to get a very high accuracy for
detecting formats. For most datafiles it is for a human statistican easy to
see the format of the file by looking at a fragment, so it should be
possible to capture these rules in some code. It would be nice to have
something like a read.magic() function that reads a datafile using the
appropriate command, regardless of whether the user supplied an csv1, csv2,
tab...

Job for a UN agency in Rome: R statistician with knowledge of entropy/bayesian methods
Hi
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), based in
Rome, is in urgent need of an econometrican/statistican. The candidate will
be required to provide in the absence of primary information model-based
estimates of elements of utilization that enter our Food Balance Sheets
(see http://faostat3.fao.org/home/index.html#HOME).
We are therefore looking for two candidates who meet the following profile:

R kicking us out
Dear R People:
I am using R for teaching purposes in a large classroom.
Each computer has its own copy of R.
However, every once in a while, about half of us will get
thrown out of R, for no apparent reason.
By the way, it has happened in other classrooms as well.
Has anyone else run into this, please?
If so, how have you solved this problem, please?
Thanks in advance!

Classification Analysis
Hi everyone,
Could somebody explain to me what is the package/function for
classification analysis. I am performing analysis of music files in the form
of MIDI files. I end up with about 750 dependent variables from the
analysis, I also have a number of independent/grouping variables that I set
manually. What I would like is to be able to predict which group a
particular MIDI files belongs to
